Every worker or employee has the right to a SAFE and HEALTHY workplace Occupational Safe and Health OHS is devoted to the recognition and control of factors (Hazards) in the workplace, which may cause death, disability, injury, sickness, or great discomfort and inefficiency among the workers. Focus of OSH Environment Equipment People Materials Did you know? Every 15 seconds, a worker dies from work- related accident or disease. Every 15seconds, 160 workers have a work-related accident. Global OSH Data: ILO Report 340 million work- related accidents annually. 160 million victims of worker- related illnesses annually (Causing more than 4 days absence) Global OSH Data: ILO Report 2. Million people die each year from work-related diseases. 321,000 people die each year from occupational accidents. Occupational accidents occur mostly in:. Agriculture. Mining. Construction Top 3 Industries with cases of occupational Injuries 49.7% Manufacturing 11.4% Wholesale and retail Trader, Repair or motor Vehicles and Motorcycles. 7.2% Administration and Support Service Activities What is OSH? OSH or Occupational Safety and Health refers to the discipline focused on the safety, health, and welfare of people at work. In the Philippines, OSH encompasses a broad range of regulations, and policies designed to ensure that working conditions are safe and conducive to the well-being of employees. This includes the preventions of workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses through proactive measures and compliance with the Philippine legal standards. OSH LEGAL BASIS Presidential Decree No. 442, Book IV, Titles I & II Title : Labor Code of the Philippines Year Passed : 1974 Implementing Agency : DOLE Content : Revised and consolidated labor and social laws to afford full protection to labor, promote employment and human resources development and ensure industrial peace based on social justice. OSH LEGAL BASIS Presidential Decree No. 442, Book IV, Titles I & II Chapter II OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY Article 162. Safety and health standards. The Secretary of Labor and Employment shall, by appropriate orders, set and enforce mandatory occupational safety and health standards to eliminate or reduce occupational safety and health hazards in all workplaces and institute new, and update existing, programs to ensure safe and healthful working conditions in all places of employment. Year Passed : 2018 RA 11058 is a legislation that aims to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for all employees. This Act mandates employers to comply with OSH standards and provides strict penalties for any violations. It emphasizes the responsibility of employers to prevent workplace accidents and illnesses by adhering to the prescribed safety measures.
