We reserve the right to make alterations without notice. 014/01/01/0 3 1/2/3 General / Technical Data / Design 1 General The protective relay serves for preventing tap changer and transformer from being damaged. It is therefore part of our delivery. It has, however, to be ordered extra for tap changers type A. The protective relay has to be connected in a way that the transformer is immediately switched off when the relay is energized. 2 Technical Data Housing outdoor design Degree of protection IP 44 Relay control flap valve with drill hole Flap valve drill hole 10 mm 20 mm For on-load tap-changers Type A, M, V, H Type E, F, G, K, R, T, G Oil flow tripping the valve (20°C) at least 1,0 m/s at least 2,4 m/s Tripping switch mercury switching tube, 1 change-over contact Inrush and breaking current 24...220 V a.c., 2 amps 24...220 V d.c., 2 amps (L/R = 25 ms) Test voltage to earth 2.5 kV, 50 Hz, 1 min. Weight approx. 5 kg 3 Design 3.1 Housing (fig.1) The housing consists of non-corrosive light alloy. It is equipped with 2 flanges for connecting the pipes leading to the tap changer head and to the oil conservator. The flap valve position can be checked through 2 inspection glasses on front and rear of the housing. The tripping switch terminals are in a terminal box protected against the oil in the relay. A breather in the terminal box prevents condensation of water. The diameter of the flap valve opening is indicated in a label over the terminal box. Two push buttons covered by a hood are installed, one for checking the tripping function of the relay, the other for resetting the flap valve. 014/01/01/0 4 3/4 Design / Operation Fig. 1 Protective relay RS 1000 (front and rear view) 3.2 Relay (fig. 2) The relay elements consist of flap valve, tilting mechanism and tripping switch connected to the terminals via 3 flexible leads. The lever system permits only 2 valve positions: „Transformer in operation“ and „Transformer off“. Fig. 2 Protective relay RS 1000 (open housing) 4 Operation The protective relay is energized only by oil flow from the tap changer head to the oil conservator. The oil flow operates the flap valve which is tripped into the „off“ position by the tilting mechanism. Thus the tripping switch is energized, the circuit breakers are operated and the transformer is off the line. The protective relay is not being energized by frequent successive tap changes, nor by permissible overload operations. 014/01/01/0 5 5 Installation 5 Installation 5.1 Mounting The protective relay has to be mounted into the pipe leading from the tap changer head to the oil conservator. - Before mounting the protective relay perform an operational test. Remove the hood and the cover of the terminal box (Fig. 3) by loosening the lock screws (wrench opening 13). Proceed as follows: Operate test push button „Transformer off“: terminals 1 and 3 connected, flap valve inclined Operate test push button „Transformer in operation“: terminals 1 and 2 connected, flap valve vertical Check the position of the flap valve. - Take care that the protective relay is installed in a horizontal position. Otherwise the mercury contact tube may give erroneous response. The test push buttons have to be on top of the housing. The arrow points towards the oil conservator (fig. 4). Fig. 3 Protective relay RS 1000 (test button hood and terminal box cover removed) Fig. 4 Protective relay RS 1000 (mounted on the transformer) - The pipes from the protective relay to the tap changer head and to the oil conservator should have a nominal width of 25 mm. They have to be mounted with an inclination of 1... 2 per cent in order to guarantee the free escape of the switching gas. The relay should be supported in a way that it is not exposed to transformer vibrations. Provide a stop valve between protective relay and oil conservator. 014/01/01/0 6 5/6/7 Installation / Putting into Operation / Energization of the Protective Relay 5.2 Electrical connection The tripping switch of the protective relay may be connected as n/o or n/c. In any case, the energization of the relay must immediately trip the circuit breakers of the transformer. - For entering the leads use the threaded bore on the most suitable side of the terminal box. Fit the cable gland and close the other bore by a blind cover. The cable gland is designed for leads of 8...13 mm diameter. - Connect the leads (terminal bolts M5, max. torque 2 Nm). Connect the protective conductor to the screw M6 in the rigth top corner of the terminal box (max. torque 5 Nm). - Lock the hood and the terminal box cover by 2 screws (wrench opening 13, max. torque 8.5 Nm). - While the transformer is filled with oil, it is not necessary to vent the protective relay. 6 Putting into Operation When the transformer is put into service, the protective relay has be tested again according to 5.1. Make certain that the circuit breakers switch the transformer off when the push button „Trip“ is operated. Be sure that they can switch the transformer on again only after the push butten „Reset“ of the protective relay has been operated. The look screws of the terminal box cover and of the push button hood may be sealed. 7 Energization of the Protective Relay If the protective relay is energized proceed as follows: - Determine time of energization and operating position of the tap changer. - Check the position of the flap valve. (If it is not in position „Transformer off“, the tripping circuit has to be examined.) - Remove the tap changer insert and examine it according to the inspection instructions. - Put the tap changer into service again only when you are sure that no damage has occured. - If oil flow has tilted the flap valve (valve in position „Off“), the manufacturer or the authorized representative should immediately be informed. 014/01/01/0 7 8/9 Special Designs / Appendix 8 Special Designs (only on request and against surcharge) - Protective Relay 1000 (Ex) The design of the protective relay (Ex) corresponds to the specifications according to VDE 0171/1.69, in protection type: „oil immersion“, (Ex) o G4. It can be used on business premises, which are subject to explosion hazards by inflammable materials of all classes of explosion in the range of temperature class G1 and G4. 9 Appendix Protective relay RS 1000, dimension drawing.......................................................................................................... 899566 014/01/01/0 8 1 Appendix Protective relay RS 1000 8995660E Dimension drawing 014/01/01/0 9 © Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH 2002 Postfach 12 03 60 93025 Regensburg Germany Phone: (+49) 9 41 / 40 90-0 Fax: (+49) 9 41 / 40 90-111 Internet: http://www.reinhausen.com Email: [email protected] BA 14/01 en - 0602/300 014/01/00/0 F0102600 Printed in Germany
