## Steel Bracing Cables Steel bracing cables, used to provide temporary support until additional bracing or framing is in place, are particularly of interest in buildings under construction (fig. 19-15). Exposure of these cables to fire is quite likely to cause extensive collapse, since the cables fail readily, and they are often the primary supports or bracing. A heavy fire in an area in which numerous steel cables act as supports demands either immediate cooling of the cables or prompt evacuation of the building and the surrounding area.
