NICK ESSIEN PRESENTATION OUTCOMES The nature of conflict/ industrial conflict The various views on conflict The levels and types of conflict Inevitability of conflict (myths & truths about conflict) Sources of conflict Other issues which may lead to industrial conflict The forms of industrial conflict Conflict Management style Conflict Resolution QUO TES CONFLICT DEFINED Conflict is a normal part of life and it means dispute, disagreement, struggle, etc. There are many issues that could cause conflicts to arise within a community/organization Industrial conflict is the situation where disputes and disagreements arises between employers and their employees over matters related to working WHAT IS INDUSTRIAL CONFLICT? Kolb and Bartunek (2022) sees Industrial Conflict as the disagreement within or between two (2) or more parties or actors. It is perceived as the disputes between employer and employees due to a mismatch of perspectives or opinions pertaining to the employment relationship. It can be referred to as all expressions of dissatisfaction within the employment relationship, especially those pertaining to the VIEWS OF TraditionalCONFLICT View: The belief that all conflicts are harmful, irrational and must be avoided. Human Relations View the belief that conflict is a natural and inevitable outcome in a group Interactionist View The belief that conflict is not only a positive force but absolutely necessary for a group to perform effectively LEVELS AND TYPES OF CONFLICT INDIVIDUAL CONFLICT i. Intrapersonal or Internal Conflict Threat Occurs to a person’s within values an individual Feeding of unfair treatment Multiple and sources contradictory socialization of ii. Interpersonal conflict Requires at least two people.
