Art can help us express should ourselves in many, different ways. “Art should matter not only matter… because they are good for the soul, but because they’re good for the body as well.” (Dalisay, 2020) 5 20XX Assumptions and S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT Nature of Art Subtitle 6 Assumptions and Nature of Art 20XX Art is universal Art is a universal language. It allows people to express themselves through splashes of color, meaningful narratives, and soulful lyrics. Each piece of artwork gives an outlook into the past. Through the ages, artists have relayed their history through drawings, paintings, architecture and sculptures. S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT Art is not nature Nature needs the absence of thought to be nature. Art is not art until someone thinks about it and comprehends it. Art involves experience All art depends on experience. A work of art cannot be abstracted from actual doing. In order to know what an artwork is, we have to sense it, see or hear it, and see AND hear it. 7 Why is creativity important? 20XX Creativity is inherent in everyone. It is a process of having original ideas that have value (Robinson, 2006). Without creativity: there would be no real innovation; S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT we need people who are pure idea generators, and we need others who can modify these ideas (Thorne, 2007). 8 The way to get started is to quit talking 20XX and begin doing. The weaving arts are composed of basket weaving, back-strap loom weaving, S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT headgear weaving, fishnet weaving, and other forms of weaving. Weaving in the Philippines dates back to the 13th century. Cloth and Mat Weaving Expensive textiles are made through the intricate and difficult process called back-strap looming. 16 Weaving A double ikat mat Binakol Malong 20XX from Sulu S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT 17 Weaving A Filipino shirt made Terno 20XX of piña S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT 18 Basketry Rice Filipino- Rice baskets transportati weaved hats 20XX on S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT 19 Basketry Filipino tobacco Baskets from Aurora 20XX basket S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT 20 Carving Maragondon Kampilan Bulul 20XX church door S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT 21 Tattoo Art in the Philippines Batok, batek, patik, or batik, among other names, are general 20XX terms for indigenous tattoos of the Philippines. Tattooing on both sexes was practiced by almost all ethnic groups of the Philippine Islands during the pre-colonial era. S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT Tattoos were a historic part of the tribal culture in the Philippines. Although in recent times, it was improperly linked with criminals. 22 Why is Kalinga tattoo important? For Kalinga men, tattoos signified 20XX courage, bravery, and valor. Distinct designs were given to warriors after a successful head hunt to serve as a badge of honor S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT they will wear for life. Kalinga women, on the other hand, adorned their bodies with tattoos to enhance beauty and attract a prospective partner. 23 24 20XX S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT My tattoos Takeaways 20XX S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT - There’s always form, meaning and purpose - Art is subjective - There is a connection between beauty and art – and beauty is the measure of quality of art. 25 Assignment 20XX S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT Among the traditional arts that we have covered, I would like you to draw (in a long bond paper) your preferred traditional art. You may choose from any of the four discussed: Folk architecture, Maritime transport, Weaving and carving – you have seen examples on screen, now try to imagine and create your own style/version. You may look for inspiration online, but make sure that there is something unique in your drawing. I will also accept digital drawing for this task. Upload on BB with a short explanation of the design/details. 26 JOSE RAFAEL Y. BENITO, M.A. Thank you 20XX [email protected] Department of Liberal Arts, MU S A M P L E F O O T E R T E XT 27
