Very high heritability estimates – ADHD.80, ASD >.80 Genetic syndromes – Down, Klinefelter, Williams, fragile X… Genome-wide association studies Older age of parents ~40 years old Exposure to toxins Smoking, pesticides Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Prenatal exposure to alcohol can negatively impact the child’s behavior, learning, and physical development Spectrum of impairment Most severe = Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Associated with Intellectual disability, learning disability, ADHD.difficulty with peer relationships and easily influence by others, etc. Biological: Perinatal Preterm birth (
