Volcanoes and Earth's Interior: Types, Eruptions, and Hazards

Summary

This presentation covers volcanoes, explaining different types based on shape and eruption style, including shield, cinder cone, and composite volcanoes. It explores eruptions such as phreatic, Strombolian, Vulcanian, and Plinian. The document concludes with questions, a memory game, and an assignment to reinforce learning.

Trinanes LAVA VOLCANIC ASH VOLCANIC ERUPTION VOLCANO VOLCANOES AND EARTH’S INTERIOR LET US KNOW THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF VOLCANOES VOLCANOE S These are natural opening in the earth’s surface where molten rocks, smoke, gases and ashes are rejected. Taal Volcano Mayon Volcano Mount Pinatubo Mount Bulusan Mount Kanlaon INACTI VE Mount Banahaw Mount Cabalian Mount Atimbia Mount Batulao Mount Labo TYPES OF VOLCANO ACCORDING TO SHAPE SHIELD VOLCANO This is formed by the accumulation of lava oozes out from the volcano. since non- viscous lava can flow freely. a broad, slightly doomed structure that Mayon resembles a warrior’s shield is formed. CINDER CONE This is built from VOLCANO ejected lava fragments. they have a steep slope, wide crater, and is most abundant of the three major volcanoes. Mount Also known as the stratovolcano. this is COMPOSITE large nearly perfect slopped structure VOLCANO formed from the alternate solidification of both lava and pyroclastic deposits. Mount TYPES OF VOLCANO ACCORDING TO ERUPTION Phreatic eruption It is stem driven eruption as the hot rocks come in contact with water. Also called a phreatic explosion, ultravulcanian eruption or stream blast eruption. Occurs when magma heats ground water or surface water. Phreatic magmatic Eruption Phreatic magmatic eruptions are volcanic eruptions resulting from interaction between magma and water. Phreatic eruptions are driven by the superheating of steam due to the close proximity of magma. Magmatic eruptions that include the ejection of lava or tephra from a magma source within the earth. Strombolian Eruption It is a period weak to violent eruption characterized by fountain lava. Strombolian eruptions are moderately explosive eruptions of basaltic magma with moderate gas content. Vulcanian Eruption It is characterized by tall eruption that reach up to 20 km high with pyroclastic flow and ash fall tephra. A Vulcanian eruption is a type of volcanic eruption characterized by a dense cloud of ash-laden gas exploding from the crater and rising high Plinian Eruption extremely explosive eruptions, producing ash columns that extend many tens of miles into the stratosphere and that spread out into an umbrella shape. It is excessively explosive type of eruption of gas and pyroclastics. QUESTION What are the main gases released by volcanoes, and how can they impact the environment and human health? MEMORY GAME PLAY RECITATION TIME INSTRUCTI ON Read the question properly. 1. It is driven by the superheating of steam due to the close proximity of magma? 2. It is characterized by tall eruption that reach up to 20 km high with pyroclastic flow and ash fall tephra. 3. It is a period weak to violent eruption characterized by fountain lava. 4. It is excessively explosive type of eruption of gas and pyroclastics. 5. This is large nearly perfect slopped structure formed from the alternate solidification of both lava and pyroclastic deposits. 6. This is formed by the accumulation of lava oozes out from the volcano. 7. This is built from ejected lava fragments. 8. It is stem driven eruption as the hot rocks come in contact with water. Assignment time! For your assignment, students list five things to do before, during and after a volcanic eruption. THANK YOU STUDENTS GOD BLESS
