## Principles and Strategies of Teaching for Med Tech 'Educere' - to bring up and nurture. Both of these concepts merge in Kant's famous claim that the purpose of education is to enable humanity to develop and to improve: 'Man can only become man by education'. Education attempts to develop personality in a preferred direction. 'Educare' and 'educere' come together here, because 'development' indicates growth and the 'preferred direction' indicates a specific direction for that growth to occur. ### The Various Schools of Philosophies are: * Idealism * Reconstructionalism * Perennialism * Progressivism * Naturalism * Existentialism * Essentialism * Realism * Pragmatism ### Idealism The word 'idealism' signifies two terms: 'idea' and 'ideal'. According to Plato (an old philosophy) conceived of ideas as the basis of his philosophy. His philosophy of idealism which represents more of ideas can be better known as idealism. ### Concept of Idealism * Idealism is a philosophical position where nothing exists except an idea in the mind of man, the mind of God or in a super or supernatural realm. * It deals with certain basic questions of human life. * It holds that mind or spirit, as each man experiences it in himself, is fundamentally real and that the totality of the universe is somehow mind or spirit in its essence.
