FBH0033 THINKING SKILLS CHAPTER 2 PERSONAL LEARNING STYLE & GETTING MOTIVATED LEARNING STYLE Learning style theories often attempt to categorize how individuals prefer to receive and process information. Two such theories are based on modality and brain dominance: (i) Modality: How we perceive (receive) information (ii) Brain Dominance: How we process information (1) MODALITY LEARNING STYLE (Our preferred way of perceiving information) (1) MODALITY LEARNING STYLE (Our preferred way of perceiving information) Modality refers to the sensory channels through which individuals receive information. The most common modalities are: (i) V - VISUAL (ii) A - AUDITORY (iii) K - KINESTHETIC Visual learners are those who learn by seeing. They need to see overheads, diagrams, and read text books, etc. to understand a concept. They enjoy listening, but cannot wait to have a chance to talk themselves. These students respond well to lecture and discussion. Have a strong preference for engaging their sense of touch and physical sensations to understand and retain information. They tend to learn more effectively when they can actively participate in activities and interact with their environment.
