# Egyptian Empire ## Trade with other lands - The Egyptians traded with the Cretans, Mycenaeans, and other Mediterranean islands. They traded many products from Crete, Greece and the Mediterranean islands. - The Egyptians traded with a place called Punt, potentially located in east Africa. - They imported goods they lacked, such as gold, silver, horses, slaves, ivory, and animals and skins. - The Egyptians traded with other lands by attacking neighboring lands. Within 70 years, they gained control of one of the largest empires of their time. ## Travel in Ancient Egypt - The easiest way to travel in Egypt was by river, as land travel was difficult because of the number of irrigation canals. - Boats were used to transport goods and people. They used a sail on boats traveling south to help against the flow of the current. ## Egyptian Empire 1450 BC - The map shows the Egyptian empire in 1450 BC. - The Mitanni and Hittites in the north were powerful rivals of the Egyptians. - For centuries, Sinai was the source of Egypt's turquoise and copper. Donkey caravans travelled regularly to the mining camps to take supplies and bring the turquoise back.
