1.Describe the issue. 2. Where is the issue? The main issue of climate change is that we use too much of Fossil fuels (An energy source formed Climate change is normally found in the Arctic, in the Earth's crust from decayed organic Chad, Somalia, Syria, Democratic Republic of Congo, material. ),coal, oil and gas. When we burn this Afghanistan, South Sudan, Central African kind of stuff it releases carbon dioxide into the Republic, and Nigeria. air and then causes the planet to heat up.All of this is really bad. This is basically the main reason or issue of climate change. Climate 3.What is the impact? The impact of climate Change 4.What is being done about it? change is pretty big for example if you looked at the arctic from lets say the 1920s and then today you will spot that a In 2022 the government introduced Canada's lot of ice is melting this is really bag for the animals that live 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan.this Will there due to the fact that there i less areas to catch fish provide road maps for canadians and it will safely. It is estimated that by 2050 arctic seas ice will drop reduce 40-45 present emission. below 1 million km2 gminingmin ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ Where the issue is happening : ningmining Mining is an issue that occurs in many areas, specifically in South America. Mining also occurs in Africa, but is more common in South America. Mining specifically occurs in the Amazonia region, ningminin where there are rainforests. Mining is a issue that happens around the world, but is more common in specific areas. ✦ ✦ Mining - Impact on the planet Unfortunately, mining has a negative impact on the planet. This includes deforestation, erosion, contamination, and alteration of soil profiles (levels of soil get mixed up), contamination/pollution of local wetlands/rivers, increased noise level, and excessive pollution and dust (biomedcentral.com). Mining is also destruction of mines/habitats to specific species such as bats, rodents (mice, for example), bugs and insects, amphibians, and birds. Mining can also cause carbon emissions/pollution which contributes to climate change. Describe the Issue Mining is the process of taking out very useful minerals from the Earth this includes seas, oceans, lakes and land. Mining is usually seen when houses are being made or when Malls are being made. You will typically see mining within houses because of the basement you have to make space for it. Mining is important because almost all materials that cannot be grown through agricultural processes, or created artificially in a factory or research facility. Valuable or Plain Ores that are recovered by mining are metals, coal, gemstones, chalk, rock salt, gravel, and clay.We all need these minerals, metals, oils and coal that we take from the Earth to make products that we use in our everyday lives. These goods are electricity and the materials that we need to build our homes, schools, hospitals, roads, highways, bridges, airports, etc. What is being done by Mining? Raaya. The canadian government is working on finding ways to reduce the environmental impact of mining on the environment. This includes using eco friendly tools and mining practices, developing technologies to reduce the risk of hurting the environment while mining, and conducting research to find materials needed to create tools that can reduce the negative impact on the environment with excessive carbon emissions from mining. Many. Canada’s Mining industry is the global leading producer ore and is ranked among the top 5 producers of aluminum, cobalt, diamond, gemstones, gold, platinum, titanium and uranium. What Is Mining? (Liam) Mining is the process of extracting useful and valuable materials from the earth's crust, by using machines. Not only do they extract from land, they also extract from bodies of water including lakes, creeks and other bodies of water. Where Does It Take Place? (Liam) Mining mainly takes place in South America. It is more active and well-known in countries near the Amazon region, such as Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Brazil, and some other South American countries. However mining is a global issue that happens in other countries and continents. The Impact of Mining. (Jas) Although mining is extremely useful, it does have its downsides. One of the main downsides is its impact on the earth. Mining may cause soil erosion, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, and water contamination. This happens because mines release many harmful chemicals to the air and water. Not only that but animal habitats are being destroyed because of how large of an area is required for a sufficient amount of mining. What Is Being Done About Mining? (Jas) Mining is an issue to countries all around the world. Unfortunately, we can’t stop or try to end mining, however we may be able to reverse the impact of it. We can reverse the impact by using a process called Land Rehabilitation. Land rehabilitation is process in which dangerous toxins, substances, and man made structures are removed, as well as improved soil conditions are done. This is done so the impact of mining can be reversed. Land rehabilitation is a effective response to mining because of how the negative impact of mining can be resolved and fixed. Alternatives for Mining. (Liam) Ultimately Mining can’t be full on replaced. However we can limit the amount of mining we do by using Selective Mining. Selective mining involves selecting/mining only high graded materials leaving low graded materials left aside. This is a better alternative of mining because of how you save space for animal habitats and ecosystems. We can also use Green Mining. Green mining emphasizes energy efficiency by using more advanced electricity based equipment to mine, in replace of gas powered machines. This is a better alternative due to the pollution output from gas powered equipment. Pros and Cons of Mining Pros Cons Jas Liam Extracts valuable Ruins and Destroys materials from the animal habitats and earth. ecosystem. A oil spill is basically a spill of many chemical in the ocean that make oil, Some of these chemical that these oil spills release(Via the oil) are Hydrocarbon, Petroleum and etc. Oil Spills happen if tankers and oil refineries break down and all the stored oil is brought to the depths of the ocean just like the refineries and tankers and sea vehicles in general. Oil spills are a lead cause of extinction of sea species. Oil spills usually happen at coastal areas and around oil rigs and refineries, Its common in bays and waterways where there is lots of ships and trading( Ex. Persian Gulf, Gulf of Mexico, Mediterranean sea), Oils spills also happen in places that have naval bases and where underwater mining industries mine at for gold and others. Oil spills in conclusion happen where oil is drilled, Transported and used(In water or near water). The impact of the oil spills can affect local economies, recreational and commercial fishing, beaches, parks and can cause serious damage mariculture resources and can affect aquatic species. Oil spills can also affect the drinking water and hurt lots of industries and countries that rely on the water for their economy(EX. Malaysia, CHina, Indonesia… Etc.). If there's more of this going on then initially the global economy( Which relies on trade routes and proper water) will collapse. What is being done about oil spills is that people clean up the oil spills from the ocean by using sorbent pads, skimmers and vacuum systems to pump the oil out of the water, Mechanically containment booms are used to contain the oil spills and ensure that the oil spills doesn't spread and kill more ecosystems, COntainment booms look orange and usually cover major areas that have the most oil the short term effect of oil spills can be a bad day at the beach or even the death of some sea species that live around the areas where it happens( Ex. certain types of fish and also endangered animals). There are also some long term effect with there being extinction of species around the area, Low quality of drinking water and also polluted waterways and maybe the closing of beaches( Which ruins your fun). We can’t really change the hundred of oil spills happening per year but we can always prepare the ourselves for the long run, First we can profitt companies that are eco friendly for our products, Second we can also start using electric items and transportation and there will be less risk of oil spills since there less oil vessels in the ocean. IF we follow by these rules then the amount of oil spills per year will be reduced. WHAT IS DEFORESTATION AND WHAT'S THE ISSUE Deforestation is basically the purposeful clearing of forested land by humans. The issue is the loss of habitat. When deforestation happens some animals like birds lose their habitat. Its because when we cut the trees we basically kill their home. Deforestation is also the reason Indigenous people lose their homes as Indigenous people live in forests. WHERE DOES DEFORESTATION OCCUR According to ourworldindata.org, “95% of global deforestation occurs in the tropics. Brazil and Indonesia alone account for almost half.” So basically they said almost half of deforestation occurs in Brazil and Indonesia. And the reason deforestation is happening in Brazil is because they want land for agriculture and livestock. And deforestation happens in Indonesia for land for agriculture. So as you can see, deforestation mostly occurs in the tropics, which Brazil and Indonesia count for half of the deforestation. What is the impact on the planet According to Pachamama Alliance, “ The loss of trees can cause climate change,, soil erosion, fewer crops, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and a host of problems for Indigenous people. Deforestation occurs for a number of reasons”. So basically, they are saying that deforestation causes all of these problems. What is soil erosion: a naturally occurring process that affects all landforms. What is being done about deforestation Some people are standing with indigenous people to stop deforestation as the forests around this world our home to Indigenous people for thousands of years. And you can also help by promoting sustainable choices. For example, you can consume less, avoid single-use packaging and you can eat sustainable food! By doing this, you can be a part of the action to save all the forests! And to make our chances even higher of ending deforestation, we need the government to do their part. We need World Leaders who recognize what harm deforestation causes. We need World Leaders who know its wrong for deforestation to keep on going! We need World Leaders who will promise that deforestation will end! And now, we have over 100 World Leaders who have promised to us that deforestation will end. Description “Any kind of living organism—an amphibian (like the cane toad), plant, insect, fish, fungus, bacteria, or even an organism's seeds or eggs—that is not native to an ecosystem and causes harm.” Invasive species can be found in urban areas and settled landscapes. An invasive species can look like anything, but it will always be a type of organism. Invasive species are anything from a cat to a bull frog. Credits Where is the Issue Happening? Invasive species are mostly common in wetlands, streams, bays, etc. Some species you can find in these areas are common reeds, bloody red shrimp, spotted lantern flies, European green crab, lionfish, zebra mussels, and more. What Is Being Done About It? As of 2024, the Canadian government is managing the invasive species with the Invasive Species Act. The act makes it illegal to import, possess, transport, or free any of the species in Ontario. What is the impact on the planet? “Invasive alien species become predators, competitors, parasites, hybridizers, and diseases of our native and domesticated plants and animals.” When invasive species are introduced to an ecosystem they are extremely harmful. Invasive species are the second most significant threat to wildlife after habitat loss. Invasive species can negatively impact the environment and even cause species extinction. They can also cause and spread diseases, this leading to the suffering of humans and animals. Invasive species can reduce biodiversity and can negatively impact the economy, global trade, the industry, and job opportunities. Credits Images of Invasive Species What is air pollution ? Air pollution is when an indoor or outdoor environment gets affected by chemicals and the air becomes dark or hard to breath. Causes of this can be motor gas from a car or industrial factories. Air pollution is a very popular thing around the world.. https://youtu.be/GVBeY1jSG9Y Where is air pollution happening? Pollution is happening in many countries but 134 to be exact. I will tell you the top 5 most producers of air pollution. These 5 countries produce the most concentrated exhaust in the world. People in these countries are highly susceptible to lung disease 1 - Bangladesh 2 - Pakistan 3 - India 4 - Tajikistan 5- Burkina fastco What is the impact on the planet The impact is the loss of visibility, acid rain, harming wildlife and forest fires. The air can make it hard to breath. People in New Dehli say that car crashes happen every day because of foggy and disgusting air. Images of how the impact looks and works. What is being done about it People around the world and industries like who are trying to reduce the amount of items produced in one factory a day since its hurting and affecting the air.
