It's regional capital is Calamba City, Laguna. The region comprises five provinces: Cavite - Imus Laguna - Santa Cruz Batangas - Batangas City Rizal - Anti polo City Quezon - Lucena BATANGAS - BATANGAS CITY It's capital is the capital city of Batangas, and is bordered by the province of Cavite and Laguna to the north, and Quezon to the East. Poetically, Batangas is often referred to by its ancient name Kumintang. Has the second largest international seaport in the Philippines after Metro Manila. It has 3 cities and 31 towns and municipalities. HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, AND HERITAGE ATTRACTIONS Taal Heritage Village Taal is famous for its old ancestral house, one particular ancestral house where Marcela Coronel Mariño de Agoncillo grew up built in 1770s by her grandparents, Don Andres Sauza Mariño and Doña Eugenia Diokno Mariño. The town is home to hundreds of heritage structures dating from the Spanish Colonial period. Punta de Santiago Lighthouse Is a historic lighthouse located about 130 kilometers Southwest of Manila in Barangay Bagong Silang. It is the oldest working lighthouse in Batangas and one of the working lighthouse in the Philippines. Punta de Santiago, an imposing 51-ft tall white and real brick tower, that watches over the Verde Island Passage and seafarers. It was built by Magin Pers and Guillermo Brockman, the same guy who designed the Cape Bajeador Lighthouse in Ilocos Norte. Tanauan Church The Tanauan stone Church was constructed in the year 1732 at Bombon. Shortly 22 years later, the town, along with the church was destroyed by the violent eruption of the Taal Volcano. Taal Lake and Volcano Taal Volcano is a large caldera filled by Taal Lake. The volcano is the second most active volcano in the country, with 38 recorded historical eruptions. A complex volcano in the middle of Taal Lake and is often called an island within a lake. Verde Island Passage Is a strait that separate s the islands of Luzon and Mindoro, connecting the South China Sea with the Tayabas Bay and the Sibuyan Sea beyond. The 1.14 million hectare passage is extremely rich in marine biodiversity and has been called "Center of the Center of Marine Shorefish Biodiversity". The name is derived from the name, Captain Juan Verde who discovered the island together with his Spanish-Filipino group back in 1570. The Sublian is celebrated in honor of the town’s patron saint: the Holy Cross in Bauan and Agoncillo, and the Sto. Niño in Batangas City. Parada ng Lechon Lechon Festival is a religious and cultural festival in Balayan, Batangas, Philippines held every June 24. The festival is celebrated in honor of St. John the Baptist. Numerous activities are performed such as lechon parade, and water dousing. Balsa Festival The Balsa Festival, popularly celebrated every May 8 at Matabungkay Beach, is an annual festival to promote bamboo beach radmft or balsa and to help the community restore the identity of the town. Lomi Festival Celebrated every June 20 held in Lipa City to showcase their delicacy, Lomi. Food & Delicacies Bulalo Kaldereta Batangas Lomi Goto Tapang Taal Kapeng Barako CAVITE - IMUS Cavite is known for its rich history and a large number of national heroes, including the first President of the Philippines Emilio Aguinaldo. The province is one of the provinces that led the Philippine Revolution against the Spaniards. It is sometimes called "Land of the Brave" or the History Capital of the Philippines. Those who lived in Cavite are called Caviteños. It has 6 cities and 17 towns and municipalities. HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, AND HERITAGE ATTRACTIONS Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine The shrine is the ancestral home of Emilio Aguinaldo, officially the first President of the Philippines. The house was built in 1845 made from wood and thatch and reconstructed in 1849. Where the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain was declared on June 12, 1898. To commemorate the event, now known as Araw ng Kalayaan or Independence Day. Fort San Felipe Is a military fortress in Cavite City. It was constructed by the Spanish Military in 1609 in the first port town of Cavite, for its protection. Less than half of the original historic survives today. The remaining structure is made of granite blocks with 30- foot high walls and features a wide stairway leading to the top of the bastions and remaining walls. Dasmariñas Catholic Church The Immaculate Conception Church also known as Dasmariñas Church is the first Catholic Church established in the city of Dasmariñas. The stone Church was constructed right after the establishment of Dasmariñas as a separate parish in 1866. The Church and Covent was the site of bloodshed during the Battle of Perez Dasmariñas of the Philippine Revolution against Spain. It was declared as an important historical structure by the National Historical Institute with the placing of a historical marker in 1986. Malinta Tunnel Is a tunnel complex built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers on the island of Corregidor. It was initially used as a bomb-proof storage and personal bunker, but was later equipped as a 1,000 bed hospital. It has over 24 lateral tunnels that are branching off it's main tunnel. Tagaytay Ridge The city of Tagaytay is a component city in the province of Cavite. It is one of the country's most popular tourist destination because of outstanding scenery and cooler climate provided by its high altitude. Tagaytay overlooks Taal Lake and provides one of the iconic views of the Philippines, the view of Taal Volcano Island in the middle of the lake. As its name suggests, the series of events for the festival are held to celebrate the Independence Day season. The festival was launched in 2005 with a variety of activities such as street dancing, float parade, beauty pageant and trade fair. Regada Festival Regada Water Festival is a traditional water festival celebrated annually in the small city of Cavite. It is being held every 24th of June to honor the feast day of Saint John The Baptist. Sumilang Festival Sumilang Festival is held on February 1-3 in Silang, Cavite. It is a festival to celebrate the agricultural sector of the town. Wagayway Festival Wagayway Festival celebrated every May 29th, to honor the historic hoisting of the Philippine flag in the province. It's capital is Santa Cruz and the province is situated southeast of Metro Manila, south of the province of Rizal, west of Quezon, north of Batangas and east of Cavite. Laguna hugs the southern shore of Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the Philippines. Birthplace of Dr. Jose Rizal. It has 6 cities and 23 towns and municipalities. HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, AND HERITAGE ATTRACTIONS Underground Cemetery Is a national historical landmark and museum supervised by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. It was built in 1845 under the supervision of Franciscan priest, Fr. Vicente Belloc as a public burial site and it's underground crypt exclusively for Spanish Friars. Prominent town citizens and members of elite Catholic families. It is dubbed as the only underground cemetery in the country. Rizal Shrine Is a reproduction of the original two- story, Spanish-Colonial style house in Calamba, Laguna where Jose Rizal was born on June 19, 1861. Rizal is regarded as one of the greatest national heroes of the Philippines. The house is designated as a National Shrine by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. Mt. Makiling Is a inactive st rato volcano located in the provinces of Laguna and Batangas. The mountain is sacred to many pilgrims and is widely believed to be the home of an anime named Maria Makiling. It was declared as an Asian Heritage Park in 2013, with the title of "Mount Makiling Forest Reserve". Pagsanjan Falls Is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Philippines. The three-drop waterfalls is reached by a river tip on dugout canoe, known locally as "Shooting the Rapids" , originating from the municipality of Pagsanjan. The town of Pagsanjan lies at the confluence of the two Rivers, the Balance River and the Bumbunga River (Pagsanjan River). National Art Center Is a building complex situated in Mount Makiling, Los Gatos, Laguna. The establishment was inaugurated in 1976. It's theater is the Tanghalang Maria Makiling or NAC Center, which has an audience capacity of 1,000 people. It is held every first to second week of January. It is a celebration started in 1996. Batingaw Festival A festivity commemorating the legendary Kampanang Ginto which Cabuyao is known. The celebration always starts with the simultaneous ringing of church bells, which Cabuyeños believe that it brings good agricultural harvest. Bangkero Festival Celebrated every February, it is to celebrate and honor the bangkeros or the renowned Pagsanjan Falls. It was later renamed Tayabas. In honor of the former governor of the province who later became the second President of the Philippines and the first to be freely elected, Manuel L. Quezon, the province name was then changed to Quezon. Lucena, the provincial capital, seat of the provincial government, and the most populous city of the province, is governed independently from the province as a highly urbanized city. To distinguish the province from Quezon City, it is sometimes called Quezon Province. It has 2 cities and 39 towns and municipalities. HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, AND HERITAGE ATTRACTIONS Lucena Cathedral Is a Roman Catholic Cathedral in the city of Lucena, Quezon. The seat of Bishop of Lucena , it is dedicated to Saint Ferdinand III of Cantile, a 13th century monarch who reigned in parts of modern-day Spain. The parish of Saint Ferdinand traces its roots to its first parish priest, Franciscan Friar Fray Mariano Ganja, when he himself made a proposal to establish a separate town and parish from Tayabas, where he was serving as parish priest before transferred to Lucena. Salibungot Beach Is one of Jomaligs Island's hidden gem due to its rich golden color. The island is surrounded with unique golden shores of bead-like sand and beautiful turquoise water. It is a long coastline of golden sand uniquely dotted with pine trees and sandbar on one end during low tide. Quezon National Park Is a unique location in the Philippines where you can fully appreciate the grandeur of nature, as it features a wide variety of landscape and terrain that serves homes to an amazing assortment of plants and animals. Has an area of about 9,830,765 hectares. The park is also the site of Pinagbanderahan, a place where the Filipino Revolutionaries planted the Philippine flag in their fight against the Spanish Colonizers. Kamay ni Hesus Shire It is a popular tourist destination in Quezon. The shrine is claimed to be a healing church, which means devotees believes that healing prayers come true here in Kamay ni Hesus. You will have to climb 305 steps to reach the 50 ft ascending Statue of Christ. San Isidro Labrador Parish Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel Quezon Museum Cagbalete Island Dampalitam Beach Minasawa Bird Sanctuary FESTIVALS AND SPECIAL EVENTS Pahiyas Festival Happens every 15th of May in the province of Quezon.This is an annual celebration to pay homage to San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers, for a bountiful harvest in town. Niyogyugan Festival Held every 15th of August, in celebration of the bountiful harvest of coconut. Tay-Tsinoy Festival Part of the Chinese New Year celebration of the Tayabas people, which served as a connecting bridge between the Chinese and Tayabense people. Boling Boling Festival A week-long festival in Catanauan, Quezon preceding the Ash Wednesday and signals the start of the Lenten Season. Where the locals put mud or grease all over their bodies and roam around the town. The province named after Jose Rizal, one of the main national heroes of the Philippines. The province also lies on the northern shore of Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the country. Rizal is a miuntanious province perched in the Western slopes of the southern portion of the Sierra Madre Mountain range. Pasig served as its capita until 2008. A provincial capital has been in Antipolo since 2009, making it the administrative center. On June 19, 2020, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11457, which designated Antipolo as the capital of Rizal. The change took place on July 7, 2020. It has 1 cities and 13 towns and municipalities. HISTORICAL, CULTURAL, AND HERITAGE ATTRACTIONS Antipolo Cathedral (formally known as the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage and the Immaculate Conception Parish) is a Roman Catholic Cathedral located in Antipolo. The first missionaries of Antipolo were Franciscans. The church was first built in 16th century and was destroyed during World War II. The new Church was rebuilt and completed in 1954, and has since attracted millions of pilgrims every year. Angoon Mural Street Art is synonymous to Angono Rizal. This Lakeshore town is known for art groups, private art museums and street lined with murals, to honor their homegrown artist's: National Artist for Painting Carlos "Botong" Francisco, and National Artist for Music Maestro Lucion San Pedro. As a town bursting with artistic fervor, it fittingly received its subriquet as the Art Capital of the Philippines. Masungi Georeserve Is a conservation area and rustic rock garden tucked in the rainforests of Rizal. It centers on the geological formations of Masungi Rock, at an elevation of 640 metres (2, 100ft.). In 1993, the Masungi Rock and its vicinity was proposed to be declared as a Strict Nature Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. It has been a popular destination for hikes and day trips from Manila since it opened in 2015 and started development towards Geopark. Calinawan Cave It was used as a hideout by refugees during the Philippine-American war and by the Japanese World War II. This is where they realized that they need to fight from freedom of Filipinos against the enemy, this named the place "Kalinawan" which eventually became known as "Calinawan". Bahay na Bato (also known in Visa yan as baka na ba to or balay nga bato; in Spanish as Casa Filipino) is a type of building originating during Philippines Spanish Colonial Period. It's design has evolved throughout the ages, but still maintains the bahay kubo's architectural principle, it is one of many architecture throughout the Spanish Empire known as Architectura Mestiza. It was popular among the elite and middle class. Sikaran Festival Celebrated every last weekend of January to showcase and promote the traditional and local martial arts called Sikaran.
