The region is situated southeast of Metro Manila, and is bordered by the Manila Bay to the west, Lamon Bay and the Bicol Region to the east, the Tayabas Bay and Sibuyan Sea to the south, and Central Luzon to the north. CALABARZON is composed of the following provinces: Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. Laguna is notable as the birthplace of José Rizal, the country's national hero. FAMOUS TOURISM DESTINATIONS Pagsanjan Falls Pagsanjan Falls or Cavinti Falls is originally named Magdapio Falls. It is one of the earliest attractions after an American missionary discovered this three-drop waterfall in 1902. He called it Pagsanjan Falls, which is derived from the Filipino word Pinagsangahan or where it branches. Bahay ni Rizal Just a hundred meters away from Calamba’s town plaza, you can find the Museo ni Jose Rizal, also known as the Rizal Shrine in Calamba. This 2-story stone house is the replica of the birthplace of the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal. Its structure is made of hardwood, bricks, and sliding windows with capiz shells. Standing 311+ meters above sea level, it is considered as the smallest active volcano in the Philippines located within a lake, Taal Lake. Inside the volcano there is another lake, Taal Crater Lake. Visitors can ride a boat to reach the foot of the volcano and from there one can either trek or ride a horse to reach the top. It is not advisable though to swim in the Taal Crater Lake. It was once a private luxury island resort but it is now an abandoned one due to lack of freshwater source and prone to typhoons. Anilao Dive Sites Anilao is a Marine Protected Sanctuary in Batangas which is being dubbed as the birthplace of scuba diving in the Philippines. There are around 50 dive sites in Anilao, that’s a variety of dive sites to choose from starters to professional divers. Visitors can witness beautiful corals and variety of marine life. RIZAL Location: CALABARZON Capital: ANTIPOLO CITY The province is named after José Rizal, one of the main national heroes of the Philippines. FAMOUS TOURISM DESTINATIONS Hinulugang Taktak Hinulugang Taktak is a 70-feet-tall waterfall that is nestled in Antipolo City. It is one of the nearest waterfalls from Manila and is about 84 feet in width. The stunning waterscape was named as such because a large bell (taktak) was dropped (hinulog) into it in the 15th or 16th century. The bell was thrown there because locals disliked how loud it was when it was rung. Wawa Dam Wawa Dam is another spot that is beloved by locals for the cool water that falls from it. The dam is in the Montalban Gorge along the Marikina River. It was originally built to provide water to Manila back in 1909 during the American colonial period. However, it was eventually abandoned in 1968 after the Angat Dam was opened. Since then, it has become a popular spot for swimming and hiking. Cloud 9 To get a panoramic view of Antipolo City, the province's capital, look no further than the Cloud 9 Hotel and Resort. This resort features three buildings that contain a total of 78 rooms and a swimming pool, but its most noteworthy attraction is its 360(degree symbol) View Deck. The church and its surrounding structures cover 5 hectares of land. Local communities regard Kamay ni Hesus as a sacred and spiritual site. For many, it has become a pilgrimage site that welcomes devotees who wish to pray for healing or repent for their sins. Kamayan sa Palaisdaan If you are looking for a food-based attraction in Quezon, then consider Kamayan sa Palaisdaan. This name is derived from the Filipino way of eating seafood dishes using bare hands. Founders Rosauro Delos Santos and Evangeline Delos Santos started Kamayan sa Palaisdaan as a small fishpond and grilling spot in 1991. The business quickly grew and turned into a floating restaurant. Anilag Festival (2nd week of March, Laguna) From the word “ani” meaning harvest and laguna. The festival is a week-long celebration which centers on thanksgiving for the prosperity their thriving agriculture has provided them. Lechon Festival (June 24th , Batangas) The Lechon Festival is a religious and cultural festival in Balayan, Batangas, Philippines held every June 24. The festival is celebrated in honor of St. John the Baptist. Numerous activities are performed such as lechon parade, and water dousing. Higantes Festival (4th week of November, Rizal) Higantes Festival is a local festival held annually In Angono, Philippines, where hundreds of giant papiermâché puppets are paraded, representing the common people's mockery of the bad hacienda owners of the past during Spanish colonial rule. The reason behind such practice dates to the 15th century when farmers used to offer their harvests at the foot of Mount Banahaw. Over time, they brought their farm produce at the church in honor of the town’s patron saint – St. Isidore the Laborer, who is the patron saint of farmers, laborers, and peasants. Uraro - traditional Filipino cookies originating from the Tagalog people of southern Luzon. Bulalo - traditional Filipino soup that is prepared by cooking beef shanks and marrow bones until the fat and collagen dissolve into the broth, resulting in a robust flavor of the dish. Pancit Habhab - Pancit Habhab uses dried flour noodles which are also known as miki. It is eaten without using utensils. Famous in Lucban, Quezon. Tamales - Sariaya, Quezon tamales - eaten with vinegar. Quezon - cooked in a mold instead of steamed in banana leaves.
