PICTIONARY-ALPHABET FILL-IN CHALLENGE These are the smallest units of form in the whole dance, and are formed when multiple movements are merged. PHRASES It is the arrangement or combination of ideas and elements into a coherent pattern that ends in harmony and continuity. The separate movements in the choreography must fit or flow together, and must be important to and contribute to the whole; phrases that are not essential to the concept/intent of the work should be eliminated. 11 Continuity and Development The phrases of the dance that are organized progressively, making each movement phrase move naturally into the next. There is a continuous development of the movement phrase and the audience is swept along to the end. 12 VARIETY AND CONTRAST Variation demands that the movement content, which has already been established in the dance, is used again in a different way. Contrast demands the introduction of new material that contrasts the movement that is already in the dance. 13 TRANSITION This is the link between movements, phrases, and sections of the dance. It makes the logical progression of the dance flow smoothly. 14 REPETITION It emphasizes movements and phrases that are important to the dance and gives a feeling of closure to a work. 15 CLIMAX -This is where the apex of energy in the dance is reached. -The climax may be a fast and enraged blast of energy and action, or it could fade away to a gentle and quiet exit that marks the end of a particular story. 16 17
