## MATERIALS OF DECORATION ### 5.5.3. High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Lamps a. Mercury Vapor Lamps - is a type of electric discharge lamp that uses mercury in a sealed, clear or phosphor-coated, tubular, quartz arc tube, which when energized, produces visible light by the excitation of mercury vapor. It is primarily used for limited industrial areas, manufacturing plants, warehouses, etc. b. Metal Halide Lamps - contains mercury vapor with an arc of approximately 1/3 atmosphere pressure. In addition to mercury, the arc tube contains metal halides, or sometimes rare earth halides, of sodium, thallium, indium, or scandium. These additives function as phosphors, and emit light when excited by the discharge current. It is used for both indoor and outdoor lighting applications
