# 5.5 Types of Lamps ランプ is defined as any of various devices for producing light, either by electricity or gas. the source of light in a future, colloquially called a "light bulb". ### 5.5.1 Filament Lamps 1. **Incandescent Lamp**: Is a source of artificial light that works by incandescence. It is an electric lamp in which a filament, opposed to a bulb, is heated to incandescence by an electric current, through the lamp base, until it emits light. The incandescence rapidly destroys the oxygen in the air from reaching the hot filament, which would otherwise be rapidly destroyed by oxidation. It was the first type of modern electric light, introduced in the early 19th century and still in basically inefficient at converting electricity to light. ### Parts of an Incandescent Lamp a. Bulbs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, bulb designations consist of a letter to indicate its shape. * **Bulb**: Is the glass housing of a lamp. * **Filament**: The third electrode of an electric light that is heated to incandescence. * **Lamp Base**: Is that part of a bulb that connects to a holder. b. Bulbs are shaped bulb for low-wattage, decorative incandescent lamps * **A Bulb**: Is the standard shaped bulb for low-wattage, decorative incandescent lamps. * **B Bulb**: Is a cone-shaped bulb for low-wattage, general-service incandescent lamps. * **CA Bulb**: Is a candle-shaped bulb for low-wattage, decorative incandescent lamps. Having an internal reflector bulb of cast glass for incandescent and high-pressure mercury lamps, having a parabolic aluminized reflector and a lens. * **PAR Bulb**: Is a discharge lamp, having an internal reflector and a lensed front to provide the desired beam spread. * **R Bulb**: Is a reflector bulb of clear or frosted glass for incandescent lamps.
