Others function as noun, adjectives, or adverbs.” WHAT IS INFINITIVE? - Infinitives are a key part of English grammar. They can be used in various forms like nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. - An infinitive in English grammar is usually made of “to” and the base form of a verb. FOR EXAMPLE: 1. David wanted to be the lead singer of the band. In this case, we have infinitive to be and that’s expressing a state of being. INFINITIVE AS A NOUN An infinitive acts as a noun when it represents an idea, action, or state of being. It can be the subject of a sentence or the direct object of a verb. Ex. I love to eat. INFINITIVE AS ADJECTIVE Infinitives can function as adjectives that modify the meanings of nouns. Ex. “Irene wants a pizza to eat.” INFINITIVE AS ADVERBS Infinitives function as adverbs when they are used to give more information about adjectives, verbs, or other adverbs in a sentence. Ex. “She raised her hand to ask a question.” Direction: - Construct 5 sentences about infinitive as noun, adjective, and adverb. - You only have 5 minutes to work at it, and 2 minutes to present. - Please be guided by the following rubrics.
