LECTURE I N T R O D U C T I O N TO P H OTO G R A P H Y MCS 1000 A S P E C TS O F C O M M U N I C AT I O N S But first, let's take a step back. LECTURE I N T R O D U C T I O N TO P H OTO G R A P H Y MCS 1000 A S P E C TS O F C O M M U N I C AT I O N S How did the medium of photography come to be? LECTURE I N T R O D U C T I O N TO P H OTO G R A P H Y MCS 1000 A S P E C TS O F C O M M U N I C AT I O N S CAMERA OBSCURA Essentially the Camera Obscura is a box-shaped device or room that lets light in through a small opening on one of its sides. The light reflected from the chosen subject outside of the box passes through the pinhole and is inverted and projected onto a surface on a smaller scale inside the encased area opposite the hole. The subject could then be traced. He discovered how to capture an image by forming an image on a plate of iodised silver, exposing it to mercury vapour, which settles on the exposed parts of the image. Using a photographic negative, Talbot's invention allowed multiple prints to be made of the same shot, something that was inconceivable to the general public prior to his research and development LECTURE I N T R O D U C T I O N TO P H OTO G R A P H Y MCS 1000 A S P E C TS O F C O M M U N I C AT I O N S N E G AT I V E POSITIVE LECTURE I N T R O D U C T I O N TO P H OTO G R A P H Y MCS 1000 A S P E C TS O F C O M M U N I C AT I O N S 1 8 8 8 - 1 970 s THE KODAK REVOLUTION Kodak produced and released the first-ever roll-film hand camera, invented and marketed by George Eastman (1854– 1932). The aforementioned, was a simple box camera that came loaded with a 100-exposure roll of film. LECTURE I N T R O D U C T I O N TO P H OTO G R A P H Y KO DA K C A M E R A , 1 8 8 8. When a photo is taken, the mirror flips upward, allowing light to pass through the lens and reach both the sensor and the optical viewfinder. This mechanism enables you to see exactly what the lens sees.
