Bismillah Seerah Competition 2025 Level 1 Study Material Kindergarten Grade 1 Grade 2 bit.ly/seerah2025 | [email protected] Sunan of Prophet ﷺ & The Story of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ In The City Of Madinah Part 2 Assalamualaikum! My name is Hasan. Last year, we studied the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ from his migration to Madinah up until the Battle of Uhud. This year, we are going to learn about the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺafter the Battle of Uhud. We’re also going to be learning about some of the Sunan of our Prophet ﷺ. Let’s start with the Sunan! What is the meaning of Sunnah? Sunnah is the sayings and actions of the Prophet ﷺ Allah (swt) sent the Prophet ﷺas a role model for muslims He taught us the best way to live our lives, and has made it easy for us by showing us through his actions. At Home The Prophet ﷺset an example for us to do work with our own hands and help out our family. At home, the Prophet ﷺhelped with household tasks. Aisha (RA), his wife, said that he would clean and mend his clothes, repair his shoes, milk the sheep, and take care of his own chores. Aisha (RA) was asked, “What would the Prophet ﷺdo in his house?” She replied, “He used to keep himself busy serving his family and when it was the time for prayer he would go for it.” Leaving and Entering the House When leaving the house: Exit with your left foot first Recite the leaving the house dua When entering the house: Enter with your right foot first Say Salaam to the inhabitants of the house Recite the entering the house dua Etiquettes of the Masjid The Prophet ﷺhighly recommended Muslim men to pray fard salah (the 5 obligatory prayers) in the Masjid. As a young man, he worked as a shepherd and a trader, and got married to Khadijah (RA) He never worshipped idols or took part in any of the evil practices that were common at the time in Makkah He wanted to take some time alone to think so he started to spend time in a cave called Hira. Seerah Recap One day while he was sitting in cave Hira in deep thought, Angel Jibreel (AS) came down from heaven with a message from Allah Angel Jibreel (AS) revealed the first 5 verses of Surah Alaq to him, and Muhammad ﷺwas now a Prophet Initially, he started spreading Islam secretly to his family and friends One day, he received Allah ’ﷻs command to openly preach Islam to the people of Makkah Many of the Quraysh were displeased with the Prophet ’ﷺs message, and so they began torturing him and his companions The Prophet ﷺalso went to Taif to preach Islam, but was treated very horribly by Taif’s residents Seerah Recap One night, Allah ﷻsent Angel Jibreel (AS) with a flying animal to the Prophet ﷺ, to take him to visit Masjid al Aqsa. Then, he rode the flying animal to go and visit the heavens, where he met many prophets and got to see Jannah and Jahannam. He also spoke to Allah ﷻand was given the gift of Salah A while later, the Prophet ﷺmet some people from Yathrib (old name of Madinah). They liked what he taught and promised to follow him. These people also invited him to migrate to their city Seerah Recap Allah (SWT) commanded the Prophet ﷺand his followers to migrate to Madinah. The Prophet ﷺensured all the Muslims safely left Makkah before he and Abu Bakr (RA) left during the night. In Madinah, the Muslims were warmly welcomed by the Ansar (the helpers). The Prophet ﷺand his followers worked together to build a masjid and create a strong Muslim community in Madinah. Some people, like Ibn Ubay, pretended to be Muslims but secretly tried to harm the Muslims. These people were called hypocrites. Seerah Recap The Quraysh had taken the belongings the Muslims had left behind in Makkah. The Muslims decided to ambush a Qurayshi caravan, which led to the Battle of Badr. The Muslims were fewer in number, but Allah sent angels to help them, and they won against the Quraysh. This victory angered the Qurayshi leaders, who attacked the Muslims again. This was the Battle of Uhud. During this battle, the Muslims faced heavy losses. Challenges After the Battle of Uhud Less than three years after migrating to Madinah, the Muslims had already fought in two big battles: the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud. The Muslims in Madinah were still recovering from the heavy losses they suffered in the Battle of Uhud. After winning at Uhud, the Quraysh thought the Muslims were weak and easy to defeat. Threats Within the Community In the Muslim community, Ibn Ubay and his followers, called the hypocrites, caused trouble. Some people thought Ibn Ubay was a traitor, but others still trusted him and listened to him. The Prophet ﷺwas deeply saddened by the loss of his beloved uncle, Hamzah (RA). To help the Muslims feel better and grow stronger in their faith, he told them to pray late at night. He said, “The coolness of my eyes has been placed in the Salah.” The Birth of Hasan During this difficult time, Allah (SWT) blessed Fatima (RA) and her husband Ali (RA) with a baby boy. The Prophet ﷺchose the name ‘Hasan,’ which means “beautiful.” The Prophet ﷺsaid that Hasan would grow up to be a leader who would bring peace between two large groups of Muslims. To celebrate Hasan’s birth, a feast known as Aqeeqah was held. Two goats were sacrificed, and the meat was shared with the guests as a way of thanking Allah (SWT) for the blessing of a newborn. Lessons The Importance of Salah: Salah is an important part of a Muslim’s daily life. 1 It’s a way to talk to Allah about your worries and problems. Trusting Allah (Tawakkul): When things are hard, we need to trust Allah’s 2 plan. Even though the Muslims lost a lot in the Battle of Uhud, they kept going, trusting that Allah would guide them to something better. Never Giving Up: Life isn’t always easy, but Muslims should keep trying their 3 best. The losses at Uhud remind us that we should never give up because Allah’s plan is always good for us. Lessons 4 Sticking Together as a Community: Even during hard times, the Muslims stayed united. They prayed together and celebrated happy moments, like the birth of Hasan (RA). Staying close to family and friends during tough times makes us stronger. Being a Peacemaker: The Prophet ﷺnamed his grandson “Hasan,” which 5 means “beautiful,” as a sign of peace. Even when there was conflict, he chose peace. We should also try to bring peace into our lives and with others. Being Grateful for Blessings: The Muslims celebrated Hasan’s (RA) birth 6 with a feast (Aqeeqah) to thank Allah for the blessing of a new child. Even during tough times, it’s important to be thankful for the good things Allah gives us and look forward with hope. Tensions in Madinah When the Muslims arrived in Madinah, life in the city began to change. Some people were not happy about these changes. The Banu Nadeer, a Jewish tribe led by Huyay Ibn Akhtab, made a peace agreement with the Prophet ﷺwhen he came to Madinah. Later, however, the Banu Nadeer broke this agreement by helping the Quraysh during the Battle of Uhud. They were upset because they lost control of trade after the Prophet ﷺopened a tax-free market, and the Prophet ﷺbecame the most respected leader in Madinah Huyay’s Plan Huyay felt pressure to do something to stop the Muslims from becoming stronger. He secretly met with leaders of the Quraysh to plan against the Prophet ﷺ. They tried to ask the Prophet ﷺtricky questions to make him look bad, but he answered them all correctly, which upset them even more. To solve the growing tension, the Prophet ﷺand his companions, Abu Bakr (RA) and Umar (RA), went to meet Huyay peacefully, without weapons. However, Huyay planned to kill them by dropping a large rock from his fortress. Allah protected the Prophet ﷺby making him move away just in time. The Surrender of Banu Nadeer Angered by this betrayal, the Muslims surrounded the Banu Nadeer’s fortress. They blocked the roads leading to it and camped near their valuable date farms. The Prophet ﷺgave them ten days to leave Madinah, promising forgiveness to anyone who became Muslim. But Huyay refused and told the Prophet ﷺ, “We will not leave, so do as you wish.” As days passed, the Banu Nadeer ran out of food and supplies. They finally raised a white flag to surrender. Huyay led his people to Khaybar, where they planned their next move against the Prophet ﷺ. Lessons Think Before You Act: When you're upset, take a moment to calm down and think. 1 Ask for advice and trust Allah to guide you. Careful actions help you make better choices. Stay Humble: Arrogance stops you from listening and learning. Huyay’s pride hurt 2 him and his people. Being humble helps you make better and kinder choices. Good Leadership: A good leader cares for others and makes choices to help 3 everyone. Huyay’s selfishness hurt his tribe. A leader listens and does what’s best for the group. Lessons 4 Islam Teaches Peace: Islam teaches us to solve problems without fighting. The Prophet ﷺalways looked for peaceful solutions, and we should be patient and kind in tough times. Be Honest and Loyal: Being honest and loyal is important in friendships. When you 5 keep promises and tell the truth, people will trust and respect you. Breaking trust, like Huyay did, causes problems. The Power of Forgiveness: The Prophet ﷺforgave those who accepted Islam 6 and gave up peacefully, even after they caused harm. Forgiveness helps fix problems and bring peace. Rabi’a’s Devotion to the Prophet ﷺ Even though the danger from Banu Nadeer was gone and life in Madinah was calm, the Muslims began to realize that one day the Prophet ﷺwould leave this world. This thought made many believers want to spend more time with the Prophet ﷺwhile they could. One of them was a teenage boy named Rabi’a (RA). Rabi’a packed his few belongings and moved to the Prophet’s masjid, where he could stay close to the person he loved most in the world. Living in the Masjid Rabi’a joined the Ahlus Suffah, a group of noble companions who lived in a shaded area of the masjid in Madinah. They dedicated their lives to worship, learning, and serving the deen. Rabi’a stopped playing games and spending time with his friends to focus on worship. His best friend, Saleem, noticed this and went to the masjid to ask Rabi’a to come back. Saleem didn’t understand why Rabi’a had left everything to live with the poor Ahlus Suffah. A Burning Desire to Be Close Rabi’a told Saleem that he wanted to be as close to the Prophet ﷺas Abu Bakr (RA) was. Saleem laughed, thinking it was impossible. Even though it was tempting to go back to his friends, Rabi’a wanted to do something important with his life. He believed Allah (SWT) would help him. Trying to Serve the Prophet ﷺ Rabi’a looked for chances to get close to the Prophet ﷺ. When food was brought to the Prophet’s house, he always shared it with the Ahlus Suffah. But whenever the Prophet ﷺcame out to the masjid, he was surrounded by so many people that Rabi’a couldn’t get his attention. One day, Rabi’a decided to serve the Prophet ﷺby bringing him water for wudu, just like Anas bin Malik did. However, he fell asleep and missed his chance. Feeling discouraged, he thought about going home but changed his mind after hearing the Prophet’s beautiful recitation during the night prayer. A Special Moment One day, the Prophet ﷺsurprised Rabi’a by calling his name. Rabi’a, amazed that the Prophet ﷺhad noticed him, could hardly believe it. The Prophet ﷺtold him to ask for anything he wanted. Feeling overwhelmed, Rabi’a asked for more time to think. The next day, instead of asking for wealth or comfort, Rabi’a asked to be close to the Prophet ﷺin Jannah (Paradise). He explained to Saleem that material things don’t last, but serving the deen and being close to the Prophet ﷺbrings true happiness and meaning. Lessons Focus on What Matters: Not everyone will understand why you want to focus on 1 your deen, but if you are sincere and trust Allah, He will help you. Rabi’a teaches us to focus on important goals instead of trying to fit in. Work Hard and Make Sacrifices: Rabi’a gave up time with friends to live in the 2 masjid and learn. This shows that great things need hard work and giving up some comforts. Help Others: If you have more than others, follow the Prophet ﷺand share what 3 you can with those who need help. 4 Be Kind: The Prophet ﷺtreated everyone with kindness and made them feel loved. We should try to make others feel special too. Lessons Find True Happiness: Rabi’a chose to help the Prophet ﷺand his community 5 instead of wanting material things. This teaches us that helping others and focusing on our deen brings true happiness. Never Give Up: When Rabi’a faced problems, he didn’t quit. He kept looking for ways 6 to serve the Prophet ﷺ. This shows the importance of trying again even when things are hard. Choose What Lasts Forever: When Rabi’a could ask the Prophet ﷺfor anything, 7 he asked to be with him in Jannah. This teaches us to focus on what brings us closer to Allah, not just things that don’t last. Huyay’s Plan for Revenge Huyay, the leader of Banu Nadeer, was living in Khaybar and planning to attack the Muslims. He was angry because the Muslims controlled their fortress. Huyay decided to join the Quraysh to fight the Muslims and took a small group of followers to Makkah. Huyay’s Alliance with the Quraysh When Huyay and his group reached Makkah, they met with Quraysh leaders. Huyay knew the Quraysh were upset because the Muslims had disrupted their trade routes. He offered a plan to join forces and attack the Muslims, and the Quraysh agreed, hoping to defeat the Prophet ﷺafter their near victory at Uhud. They added more tribes to make the army bigger and promised rewards to smaller tribes to get them to join. The Growing Alliance Army Soon, the desert near Makkah became a busy campsite as soldiers from many tribes arrived to prepare for war. Within days, the alliance had an army of almost 10,000 men, a huge number for that time. This attack became known as the Battle of Ahzab (Alliances) or the Battle of Khandaq (Trench). Abu Sufyan was chosen to lead the alliance. Their goal was clear: invade Madinah, destroy the Muslim community, and kill the Prophet ﷺ. Lessons Avoid Greed and Arrogance: Greed and arrogance harm the heart. Don’t think 1 you are better than others or chase worldly things like the disbelievers did. Stay humble and focused on the truth. Unity Brings Strength: Even when others unite against Muslims, we must support 2 one another and work together. Our strength comes from being united, no matter our differences. Control Negative Emotions: Anger and revenge can lead to harmful choices, just 3 as they did for Huyay. Stay grounded in what is fair and right, and don’t let emotions or outside pressures guide your actions. The Prophet Calls a Meeting In Madinah, the Prophet ﷺheard that an enemy army was coming, so he quickly called a meeting with his Companions. When the senior Companions heard the adhan at an unusual time, they knew something serious was happening and rushed to the masjid. Salman Al-Farsi, a new Muslim from Persia, joined the meeting later. People were worried, but Salman (RA) suggested digging a trench around Madinah, like he had seen in Persia. Though some thought it was strange, the Prophet ﷺapproved, and the Muslims began working right away. Digging the Trench The Muslims had little time to dig the trench before the enemy arrived. Salman (RA) organized everyone into groups of ten, and even the children helped. Despite the heat and tiredness, the Prophet ﷺworked with them, leading chants to encourage them. When they reached a big boulder, the Prophet ﷺstruck it three times, breaking it into pieces, and gave an inspiring speech. His words made the Muslims keep going. The Enemy Arrives As the Muslims were finishing their work, Salman and Rabi’a saw the enemy army coming sooner than expected. Salman warned the Muslims, and the Prophet ﷺquickly organized the soldiers, set up defenses, and placed archers by the trench. Women and children were moved to a safe place. When the enemy reached the trench, they couldn’t cross. Some tried to jump, but their horses wouldn’t. The Siege & Ali’s (RA) Victory The enemy decided to stay outside Madinah, trapping the Muslims for three weeks. During this time, the Muslims ran out of food and were attacked constantly. Some people spread doubt and mockery. One day, some soldiers crossed the trench and challenged the Muslims. Ali (RA) stepped forward, fought bravely, and defeated them, causing the enemy to retreat. The Miracle of Food at Jabir’s House During the siege, the Prophet ﷺtied a rock to his stomach because he was hungry. Seeing this, Jabir bin Abdullah (RA) invited the Prophet ﷺto his house for a meal. The Prophet ﷺinvited the whole army to join, and a miracle happened—over 1,000 soldiers ate from a small pot of food, and it never ran out. Banu Qurayza’s Betrayal During the siege, the Prophet ﷺlearned that the Banu Qurayza, another Jewish tribe, had betrayed the Muslims. Their fortress was close to where the women and children were, so the Prophet ﷺsent 500 soldiers to protect them. The End of the Siege Prophet ﷺprayed to Allah, and Allah sent strong winds and a dust storm that destroyed the enemy camp. The siege ended, and the enemy retreated. Surah Al-Ahzab (9-27) was revealed, praising the faithful and condemning the hypocrites. After the siege, the angel Jibreel (AS) told the Prophet ﷺto deal with Banu Qurayza for their betrayal The Muslims knew their work was not yet over, and the Prophet ﷺprepared to hold the traitors accountable. Lessons All Muslims Are Equal: Being Muslim for a shorter time doesn’t make someone 1 less important to Allah. Every Muslim has value in the cause of Islam. Be Open to Ideas: The Prophet ﷺlistened to his companions’ ideas and valued 2 their suggestions. We should be humble and open to good ideas from anyone, knowing that teamwork leads to better decisions. Trust in Allah’s Rewards: Allah never abandons true believers. If you stay strong 3 during hard times, Allah will reward you and never let your efforts go to waste. Lessons Prioritize Salah: Even in busy and chaotic times, make time for salah and 4 connecting with Allah. Salah is your escape from the world, just like it was for the Prophet ﷺ. Strengthen Your Faith: The Prophet ﷺwas a source of blessings, and his 5 miracles, like the food Jabir’s wife prepared, strengthened the faith of the Muslims. These stories remind us to use his examples to strengthen our own faith. ﷺ In shaa Allah we will study the next part of Seerah in 2026 Thanks!
