SIEVE SET A sieve is a tool used to separate solids based on their size. In construction, sieves are used to measure the particle size distribution of materials like soil and aggregates. BALANCE Precision balances are used in laboratories to effectively complete tasks like weighing test materials and sampling amounts, formulation, density determination, purity analysis, quality control testing, and material and conformance testing because of their high precision and cutting-edge technology. GRADUATED BEAKER A graduated beaker is a tall, cylindrical container with markings that indicate the volume of liquid it holds. CALCULATOR A mechanical or electronic device for the automatic performance of mathematical operations. It is used in determining and calculating material costs, labor costs, equipment costs, other costs, and also risk costs. They create detailed cost estimates that are then used for creating offers or for budget planning. SLUMP CONE A slump cone is a mold used to test the consistency of fresh concrete. It's also known as an Abrams cone. Slump Cone A metal mold in the form of a truncated cone with a top diameter of 4"(102mm), a bottom diameter of 8"(203mm), and a height of 12"(305mm), used to fabricate the specimen for a slump test. A 2 ft (610 mm) long bullet nosed metal rod, 5’’’ (16 mm) in diameter. VARIOUS MOLDS Three types of molds are used in the material testing lab for preparation of Concrete specimens. - Cube molds - Cylinder molds - Beam molds HYDROMETER A hydrometer measures the specific gravity of liquids, comparing their density to water density. It's typically glass with a cylindrical stem and bulb weighted with mercury or lead shot. The liquid is poured into a container, and the point of contact is noted. UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHINE UTM is an instrument that may apply transverse, compressive, or tensile stress to a test specimen. It can also be modified to determine other qualities including cold bend, ductility, and Brinell hardness. In essence, the machine is made up of three systems: loading, weighing, and loading. The loading can be applied mechanically or hydraulically. CONCRETE MIXER A concrete mixer is a machine used in construction to mix cement, water, and other materials such as sand, gravel, and sometimes additives, to make concrete. PRESSURE GAUGE A pressure gauge is a device that measures the pressure of a liquid or gas within a system. Pressure gauges are used in many industries and scientific fields to ensure safety and product quality. TAMPING ROD Tamping rods are dimensionally accurate rods used to tamp fresh concrete into cylinder molds and slump cones to eliminate voids and excess air. Measures: 5/8" diameter x 24" length. For use with slump cones, 6" x 12" concrete cylinder molds and pressure meters. Also available; 3/8" diameter x 12" length, 5/8" diameter x 12" length, and graduated 5/8" diameter x 24" length. THERMOMETER A thermometer measures temperature, which is an important factor in the construction industry. Thermometers are used to monitor the temperature of concrete and asphalt during production, transportation, and installation. VIBRATOR A vibrator is a construction tool that shakes concrete to remove air bubbles and create a stronger, more stable final product. VICAT APPARATUS The Vicat apparatus is a device used to test the consistency and setting time of cement, mortar, and concrete. It's used in the construction industry to ensure that the materials used meet quality standards. ELECTRIC OVEN An electric oven is a thermal processing machine that uses electricity to heat a chamber for drying, curing, or baking. In the construction industry, electric ovens are used to prepare and condition construction materials like concrete, asphalt, and soil. SHOVEL A shovel is a tool used in construction to move loose materials like dirt, snow, gravel, and coal. Shovels are also used for digging trenches and lifting materials. TROWEL A tool in the shape of a tiny spade. It is constructed from a triangular or quadrangular metal sheet with a hardwood handle and an angled metal surface. Bricklayers mix and work with mortar using it. WHEELBARROWS A wheelbarrow is a hand-propelled vehicle with a wheel and two handles that is used to transport heavy loads. Wheelbarrows are commonly used in construction to move materials like sand, cement, gravel, and concrete. HYDRAULIC JACK A hydraulic jack is a tool that uses hydraulic fluid to lift heavy loads. In construction, hydraulic jacks are used to lift and move equipment, vehicles, and structures. FUNNEL A funnel, which is a pipe or tube with a wide top and a narrow bottom, is used to direct liquid or powder into a tiny hole. The most common materials for funnels are plastic, glass, aluminum, and stainless steel. It should not react with the substance and be made of a material strong enough to support the weight of the material that is being moved. FIRST AID KIT A first aid kit for construction workers is a medical kit that contains supplies to treat injuries that commonly occur on construction sites. First aid kits are essential for providing immediate care in case of accidents and for ensuring workplace safety
