**145. Claim: Group assignments that** **students must work together to complete should replace a substantial amount of traditional lecture-based instruction in college and university courses.** **Reason: It is vital for students to gain experience collaborating with peers to study a topic and to achieve a common goal.** "Guru Bhramha, Guru Vishnu, Guru devo maheshvara, Guru Shaksha parabhrama, tasmay shree guru dev namah" -- a saying in Sanskrit by Adi Shankracharya depicts us that teachers are god, they enlighten us with right path of life and gives us light towards success, similarly teachers in modern world guide us with the in depth knowledge and their experiences provides us the practical understanding about the subject. Disagreeing with the claim that group assignments, students must work together to complete should replace a substantial amount of traditional lecture-based instruction in college and university courses. The idea of group study of students requires a good basic knowledge of the subject which isn't possible without any expert advice or the teachers. Lecture based instruction is a necessary component for understanding the basics of any new subject. Group discussions without any basic understanding can lead to much more time consumption and not clearing the basic leads to disinterests of students about the topic or the subject. Lecture based instructions provide motivation to students about searching more advanced field of study in that subject. For instance, a student studying under lecture based instructions will have more knowledge about the subject during any group assignment and will have no difficulties and will finish in less time period, a student with no lecture based instructions will suffer from less knowledge about the subjects and take up more time. Group studies ideas in students could also lead to diverting of student's path in other directions of the course, either by misunderstanding the course or by diverting their minds into some different plays. Students don't have the seriousness in themselves at young age so group studies are always so much inconvenient and also time consuming that any lecture based instruction could have completed a topic in 1 hour lecture, which group study takes 1 -- 2 days of work and also is inefficient. The peers also have different perspectives about the courses, some might clearly know the subjects in one go, others might find it difficult to grasp the subject that fast. Slow learners in a group study have high chances of getting demotivated as their peers learn faster and are left behind and also the superiority complex in the fast learners increases which makes them more egoist. It is important for students to gain experience from their peers about the courses. The different perspectives also increases the interests of students in the course and also sometimes learning in an playful environment can create a better understanding of the topic but it is not necessary for all students to have common goals in life, some may expect different goals from the topics learnt and some might have some different. For instance a group of students learning javascript topic can have different end goals like some want to have career in MERN stack, some in MEAN stack or some might want to have app development. The experience of collaborating with these different goals peers can lead to much more interests not only in the topic but also exploring other topics. Thus, it is important to first understand the basic from the lecture based instructions given by the teachers as they are more experienced and have much more knowledge about the topics. Group studies are only beneficial if good amount of work is done in a short period of time and also playing a helper role in group study increases the teamwork skill in the students which is required by the industry, sharing different knowledge with the peers but not having common goals is fine but sharing a common goals can make the tasks easier for the students in not just distributing the works but also determining the end goals. It is upto the students according to interests how much they gain from everyone around them.
