Heffernan Feb 2021 Objectives  Demonstrate a systematic approach to reading a CXR  Interpret common CXR  Life-threatening conditions  Common acute conditions ABCDEGHI method  ALWAYS start Name/DOB/Film  Start with obvious then go systematic  Assessment/Airway  Bones  Cardiac  Diaphragm  Effusion  Fissures  Great vessel and Gastric bubble  Hila mediastinum  Impression Assessment/Airway  THINK ‘RIPE’  Rotation  Clavicle and margin of vertebra should be equal  Check trachea: is it central, Carina  Look for indwelling devices  Inspiration  Should see anterior 5-7 ribs. Hyper-inflated if 8+  Projection  PA (Posterior to anterior (Normal if not stated) or AP  Exposure  Good detail.
