**General Administrative Guideline** ------------------------------------------- --------------------------- ------------- Subject: REPORTING Serious Arrest Effective Date: 3-1-10 GAG: 1-31 Applies to: ALL FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL Supersedes: NEW Page 1 of 2 Responsible Committee: Human Resources Next Review Date: 3-1- 12 ------------------------------------------- --------------------------- ------------- **PURPOSE:** This GAG will outline the procedures involved in Reporting Serious Arrest and or any other Serious Violation of the Law. This GAG does not replace GAG (1-9) that refers to reporting loss of an employees' driving privilege. This GAG is not intended to supersede any other GAG, GOG, regulation or ordinance and the administration of the provisions shall not be considered discipline. **SCOPE:** These guidelines shall apply to all personnel of the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department. **GUIDELINES:** It is the duty of all personnel as spelled out under the Rules and Regulations of the City's Human Resources Department; that in the event of a Serious Arrest or a Serious Violation of the Law those events shall be reported to the Department. Generally, personnel who are taken into custody and transported to a law enforcement facility shall have the requirement to complete the report. This GAG outlines two routes for the delivery of information from the employee to Fire Administration. Forms for reporting such incidents will be placed on the station desktops. While these incidents may be public record the Fire Department and the respective Unions will make every reasonable effort to keep all information confidential. Reports of this nature shall be maintained by the Assistant to the Chief -- Human Resources. I. The report will be completed and forwarded to the Fire Chief of KCFD or his/her designee, the Assistant to the Chief. Copies of reports filed by an employee will be forwarded to the Union President or his/her designee. Alternatively, an employee may forward the report directly to the Union President. II. In the event that the employee forwards the report to the Union, it shall relay such report to the Fire Chief or his/her designee without significant delay to the office of the Chief. Reports not received in a timely fashion will be deemed as un-submitted. III. The completed report will contain the following information: member's name, work location (assignment), date of arrest or offense, location of incident, jurisdiction, charges / nature of complaint, date of scheduled hearings or court date. IV. This report must be completed on the individual's next scheduled tour of duty which the member actually reports to duty. A determination of whether to extend the time frame shall be made by the Chief after the reasons for the delay have been forwarded. V. An additional report may be required by Fire Administration to be completed and submitted once the issue has reached final disposition.
