WHAT ARE THE BARRIERS OF COMMUNICATION The five barriers to effective communication are as follows : PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, CULTURAL, COGNITIVE, AND SYSTEMATIC. These five barriers only brush the surface of the obstacles a person can face during the communication process. WHAT ARE THE BARRIERS OF COMMUNICATION Physical barriers – These barriers are environmental challenges people face during communication due to their surroundings. Physical barriers can be natural or human made and is easy to spot. Noise, traffic whizzing, conversation happening during the time that the communication is taking place, cellphone dying mid call, bad architecture and closed door are all physical barriers to listening. Even the network disturbance due to a thunderstorm can be considered as one of the examples of physical barrier. Emotional barriers – This barrier can stem from a person’s existing feelings toward a subject or person(s) involved in the communication process. As an example, when someone is angry, they may say things they regret later. Someone who is angry can easily misinterpret what someone else says, even when they are listening to them. In addition to, fear, Nervousness, Confusion, Mistrust and Jealousy, there are other emotions that affect communication. Cultural barriers – These barriers derive from differences in a variety of categories, such as religion, language, traditions and power distance. Ex.
