## Oxygenation - The delivery of oxygen to the tissues to maintain cellular activity. - It is possible a person would ventilate well but not oxygenate well. ## SpO2 vs. SaO2 vs. PaO2 - SpO2 - Hgb. levels determined via pulse ox. - Normal level - 92% + - SaO2 - Hgb. levels determined via ABG. - Normal level - 80 to 100 mmHg - Mild hypoxemia - 60 to 79 mmHg - Moderate hypoxemia - 40 to 59 mmHg - Severe hypoxemia - < 40 mmHg - PaO2 - Partial pressure of oxygen in the blood plasma in the arterial system. ## Hypoxemia vs. Hypoxia - They are NOT the same thing. - Hypoxemia - Low levels of O2 in the blood plasma. - Hypoxia - Low levels of O2 delivered to the tissues / cells. ## Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy - 100% O2 delivered under increased pressure, sometimes up to 3 atm. - Know indications & benefits. - wound healing
