## Continents ### **Europe** * Sixth largest continent * Located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere * Birthplace of Western civilization * Large part of the continent is suitable for cultivation and human habitation. * Does not have any deserts * Has numerous navigable rivers and a very long indented coastline ### **Australia** * Smallest continent * Located entirely in the Southern Hemisphere * An island known as the "Island Continent" * Consists of only one nation making it the sixth largest country in the world * Home to The Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral formation * Flattest continent * Home to Ayers Rock (Uluru) , the world's largest monolith (block of stone) * Is considered a living laboratory by zoologists * Has unique animals due to its isolation from the rest of the world for millions of years ### **Oceania** * Collective name for islands scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. * Includes New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Solomon Islands and the Marshall Islands. * Divided into four parts: * Australasia (Australia and New Zealand) * Melanesia * Micronesia * Polynesia ## Points to Note: 1.
