CHAPTER 40 – PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST FOR TRANSFER INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT REV. NOVEMBER 30, 2012 40.01 PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to establish Physical Agility Test for employees who are transferring from the Detention Division into an entry-level position in the Law Enforcement Division. 40.02 POLICY A. A physical agility test will be administered to any employee attending the Law Enforcement Orientation class. B. The test will be administered during the first week of class and at reasonable intervals during the class with the objective that each employee must continually meet and maintain the standard. Employees must take and pass the Physical Agility Test during the last week of the Class. C. An employee may be removed from the class during the trial period as described in the collective bargaining agreement. 40.03 DEFINITIONS A. Push-up: Section of the test used to evaluate upper body strength, specifically the chest, upper arms and shoulder girdle. B. Sit-up: Section of the test used to evaluate body core fitness, specifically the abdominal muscles, lower back and hip flexor. C. 1 ½ Mile Run: A timed run on a level surface designed to evaluate the body’s cardiovascular system. 40.04 PROCEDURE The following tables lists the order of the test and the minimum acceptable standards needed to pass the Physical Agility Test. In order to be accepted for transfer to Patrol Orientation Training, a deputy must meet the Cooper 20% minimum standards. To graduate from the Patrol Orientation program, they must meet or exceed the 40% level.
