**Business Management and Law** **Course Description** Welcome to Business Management and Law! This course is designed to provide an introduction to business management techniques. Topics include human relations, decision-making, communication techniques, business-related legal concepts, and characteristics of the American enterprise system. **Resources** Students will use the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Curriculum. The curriculum will support the Florida Department of Education State CTE standards and curriculum. All materials will be available for parent viewing through MySCS and Schoology. Additional Apps to be used: - Microsoft Office - Schoology - GMetrix (test prep) **Industry Certification** The Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management (ESB) Certification is built to test and validate foundational concepts and knowledge in entrepreneurship and business management. These core concepts include; recognizing and evaluating opportunities; planning for, starting, and operating a business; marketing and sales; and business financials and funding. Students in this course who did not certify in Business Ownership will be required to prepare for and take the Business certification test. They will have the opportunity to take these tests throughout the year. After students take practice tests, the district provides this opportunity by paying for and administering the test. Attempting these certification tests is a portion of the student's grade. ![](media/image6.png)[\[CHART\]]{.chart}**Classroom Policies, Procedures, and Grades** [School Policies:] No electronic devices unless necessary for instructional purposes, and no food or drinks in the classroom. [Entering Class:] Log on to computers and Schoology, and check daily to-do list. [Leaving class:] Four passes per quarter to use for the hall, locker, or water. Any unused is extra credit. Teacher written pass required for clinic, office, another teacher, or guidance. Not permitted during the first and last ten minutes of class. Abuse the privilege, lose the privilege! [Exiting Class:] Put all materials away, including trash, and push in your chair, log off, [wait at your seat for the bell]. [Absences:] If you are absent for any reason it is your responsibility to make up missed assignments in a timely manner. See the content areas on Schoology for assignments. [Computer Policies:] Report any issues to the teacher. [Consequences:] If you choose not to meet classroom expectations, consequences include a deduction in employability, seat change, conferences, detention, parent contact, or a referral. ![](media/image8.png) [Employability:] 100 points per quarter. Points are deducted based on the behavior as follows: minus 2 points for unexcused absences and being late, minus 3 points for being unprepared, being off task, sleeping, and minus 5 points for using cell phones, using headphones, playing games, and disrespect. Points will be deducted at the teacher's discretion.
