Lord God of all wisdom, we pray for La Consolacion University Philippines that she may be faithful to the purposes of our foundresses, Mo. Rita and Venerable Mo. Consuelo. Continue to promote the search for truth and knowledge and be an inspiration to others who follow. May we be a community of scholars sharing this ambition, caring for one another and loyal to the truth revealed to us as your disciples. Amen CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE IDENTIFY THE VARIOUS WATER RESOURCES ON EARTH. EXPLAIN HOW DIFFERENT LEARNING ACTIVITIES AFFECT THE OBJECTIVES QUALITY AND AVAILABILITY OF WATER FOR HUMAN USE. DESCRIBE THE ROLE OF SHS STUDENTS IN TAKING CARE OF WATER RESOURCES Are you ready? LESSON 4 WATER RESOURCES ON EARTH WATER WHAT IS WATER? Discuss your answers with your seatmate. WATER composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, H₂O. one of the natural resources, which are found in an adequate amount. a colorless, odorless, and tasteless liquid that is essential source for the existence of life on the planet earth. Water is a fundamental component of Earth, playing a critical role in supporting life, shaping the environment, and influencing climate. Earth's surface is covered by approximately 71% water, with the vast majority being in the form of oceans. 97 % saltwater 2.8% fresh water 2.8% of all water on Earth is freshwater, which is essential for life. Glaciers and ice caps - These massive, frozen bodies of water hold most of Earth's freshwater, primarily in Antarctica and Greenland. Groundwater - Water stored underground in aquifers is another significant source of freshwater. Aquifers are layers of permeable rock or sediment that can hold water. Lakes and rivers - Surface bodies of freshwater are essential for many human activities, including drinking water, irrigation, transportation, recreation, and wildlife habitat. The most abundant type of water on Earth makes up approximately 96.5% of the planet's total water. primarily found in the vast oceans covering most of the Earth's surface. Serves as habitat for diverse marine life, from microscopic organisms to majestic whales. influencing weather patterns and supporting ecosystems far beyond their shores. TYPES OF WATER RESOURCES SURFACE WATER / UNDERGROUND WATER Surface water refers to any body of water found on the Earth's surface, such as SURFACE rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and oceans. Resources The water in rivers and lakes comes from rain and melting of snow on mountains. Rivers flow into the sea. Rivers: Natural flowing bodies of water that SURFACE typically originate in mountains or highlands. Resources Lakes: Large bodies of standing water, which can be natural or man-made. Streams: Smaller, narrower versions of rivers. Ponds: Smaller bodies of standing water, often shallower than lakes. Oceans: Vast bodies of saltwater that cover most of the Earth's surface. Surface water is often used for drinking, irrigation, transportation, and recreation. However, it can be affected by pollution, climate change, and overconsumption. Water stored beneath the Earth's surface in soil pore GROUND spaces and in the fractures of rock formations. WATER Resources Aquifers, underground layers of water-bearing rock, are the main sources of groundwater. GROUND Groundwater - Water that is stored underground in aquifers. WATER Wells -Man-made structures used to extract groundwater from aquifers. Resources Springs - Natural sources of groundwater that flow to the surface. Underground water is a valuable resource, as it is often cleaner and more reliable than surface water. However, it can be depleted by over-pumping and contaminated by pollutions. Any QUESTION? WATER AVAILABILITY QUANTITY OF WATER THAT CAN BE USED FOR HUMAN PURPOSE WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT HARM TO ECOSYSTEM OR OTHER USER WATER SCARCITY LACK OF SUFFICIENT AVAILABLE WATER RESOURCES TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF A REGION. WATER SCARCITY CAN BE INFLUENCED BY BOTH NATURAL CONDITIONS AND HUMAN ACTIVITIES. FACTORS AFFECTING WATER AVAILABILTY CLIMATE GEOGRAPHY HUMAN ACTION OVEREXPLOITATION CAN YOU THINK OF WAYS HOW TO ADDRESS WATER SCARCITY? What did you learn for today’s discussion? Do you think the water we have now is enough? As a student, what can you do to contribute to the country’s water scarcity? Any QUESTION? Water Conservation Create an engaging and informative TikTok video that Challenge promotes water conservation and educates viewers on effective water-saving practices. CREATE A 1- 2 MINUTES TIKTOK VIDEO SHOWCASING AND PROMOTING WATER CONSERVATION. WHAT CAN YOU DO TO BE Water MORE ECO-CONSCIOUS? Conservation HOW CAN YOU INFLUENCE Challenge OTHERS TO DO THE SAME? WHAT CAN BE DONE TO SOLVE A COMMON PROBLEM?
