What is It UNDERSTANDING THE MARKET IN ANIMATION The animation industry is continuously being shaped by animation and market. Environment The environment refers to all factors that affects a business or an industry. Industries that Employs Animation Movie and Television The most popular use of animation is the production of cartoons for film and television. Popular animation series like SpongeBob Squarepants and The Simpsons are broadcasted on television and simultaneously, films like Aladdin, Frozen, and Toy Story are full-length movies that are shown in cinemas. Modelling and Simulations Scientific and educational communities use animation to produce virtual environments that imitate actual objects and settings like a jungle, volcano, or outer space. With the help of animation, researchers can manipulate virtual environments to analyze scenarios like earthquakes and typhoons. Experiences like driving a car, flying an airplane, or diving into the deep sea, can also be simulated using animation to lessen the cost and risk involved in performing such tasks in the actual scenario. Education and Training Schools and academic institutions are also among the major consumers of animation products, especially in this digital era, where almost every classroom has television or multimedia projectors. Lessons are discussed using graphical and animated presentations intended to promote better understanding. Architecture and Engineering Architects and Engineers also use animation in creating 2D or 3D models for their building designs and product prototypes. Using animation software, they can create accurate representations of their proposed designs that allow their clients to see the products before the actual construction. Game Development The gaming industry also employs animators' expertise in bringing realistic scenes in the development of their games. The character, its movements and the materials in the environment are all products of animation. ANIMATION STUDIO PRODUCTS AND SERVICES As an aspiring animator, you need to learn the products and services that are offered by animation studios. It will serve as a guide on what particular skills you must develop to create these products that are in-demand by different industries. Here are some of the products and services that an animation studio can offer: Character Designing Character designing creates an opportunity for animators to develop their characters for books, comic books, games, or movies. An animator assigned to this type of task should be creative and imaginative to design original and exciting characters. RECOGNIZING THE POTENTIAL CUSTOMER/MARKET Identifying Customer’s Profile Imagine setting up a sari-sari store in your neighborhood, with a capital of Php 5,000.00 will it be challenging to decide on what products are you going to sell to your customers? Are you up to the challenge? Create a list of 10 products that you will put in your store. TOP 10 Products 1. __________________________ 6. __________________________ 2. __________________________ 7. __________________________ 3. __________________________ 8. __________________________ 4. __________________________ 9. __________________________ 5. __________________________ 10. __________________________ Is the list easy to create? Are you sure that all the products that you have listed are of high demand from your customers? What is the basis of your list? There is an easier way of making this list, and that is through identifying customer profiles. The customer profile is a document that lists the characteristics of your customers. This data will help you understand what products to sell by gaining an understanding of your customers. One important key in knowing your customer is through their demographics. The demographics is the statistical or numerical characteristics of your customer. One good example is determining gender. How many females are in your neighborhood? How many are males? 7 Downloaded by Hanna Fey Loyola ([email protected]) lOMoARcPSD|12137261 The knowledge of the number of males and females will give you a clue on what to sell. If there are more females than males in your neighborhood, this informs you to stock more products for females since they are the majority of your customers. How about the ages of your neighbors? Ways of Getting Customer Profiles 1. Interview One way of getting information is by having an interview with your customers asking for their preferences about the products they want to buy and their expectations. The interview can be done face-to-face or via phone call. 2. Survey You can also gather information from your customers by asking them to answer a short survey. A questionnaire must be prepared beforehand, which contains questions that, when answered, will show relevant information about their age, sex, economic status, etc. The customer’s intention in purchasing or availing a particular product or service is based on how they perceive the necessity of these objects to their lives. Needs refers to things that are essential to living. These are objects required by our bodies to survive like food, water, clothing, and shelter. On the other hand, wants refer to things that we can live without but satisfy personal desires like cars, jewelries, flat screen television, etc. Identifying Customer’s Needs and Wants Using Consumer Analysis Consumer analysis is a strategy used by business owners in collecting relevant information about the customers and analyze them to provide products and services that are essential to consumers. Steps Involved in Consumer Analysis STEP 1. Identifying the Customers Using interviews or surveys, the business owners will have a clear picture of who their customers are. The information gathered in this step is helpful in deciding what products or services to offer to clients. STEP 2. Understanding the Customer’s Needs Aside from customer’s profiles, entrepreneurs should also determine the customer’s reasons behind their customer's purchases, their basis or preferences of buying a particular product or brand, and the frequency of purchasing these products. The information gathered in this step is helpful in meeting the expectations of their customers. STEP 3. Show how the Products/Services Meets the Customers’ Needs Now that the business owner has all the information they need about the customer, it is time to develop and market products and services in such a way that it matches the needs and expectations of the customers about the products. 8 Downloaded by Hanna Fey Loyola ([email protected]) lOMoARcPSD|12137261 What’s More Activity 1.
