However, if applicants are from English speaking countries and did their university education in English, they do not need to present proof of their language proficiency Applicant for admission to M.Sc. in Financial Economics must meet following academic requirements: Applicants must have a BA degree in Economics, Finance, Financial Economics, Management, Accounting, Finance and Development, Statistics, Mathematics. Applicants must pass an entrance examination (focused on macroeconomics, microeconomics, mathematical economics and econometrics) to be administered by the Department of Economics and should pass Aptitude Test administered by the University. Foreign applicants may, in lieu of sitting for entrance examination, submit the results of GRE or equivalent. Foreign Applicants are further required to certify fluency in the English language, the teaching/learning medium at the AAU. Candidates from English speaking countries and who did their university studies in English are exempted from this requirement. EMBA Program Admission The Program is designed to advance executives skills and knowledge and therefore, the admissions process should ensure bringing together a broad group of highly qualified and motivated participants with significant management experience. Accordingly, the applicants for the executive MBA program should Be 30 years or above Possess management or relevant business management function areas related (supply chain management, marketing, human resources, accounting, finance, economics, statistics, or engineering) undergraduate residential degree from recognized/accredited Universities Have Minimum of 5 years work experience in business organization of which minimum of 2 years managerial experience after first degree Achieve competitive score in the quantitative and language proficiency (communication) test prepared and administered by the Department of Management. (The admission test will be prepared in GMAT standards with general management question included). Note 1. Experience claimed to be managerial should clearly be described as such or evidenced by a title that unequivocally demonstrates that the experience is managerial, 2. Decision on applications will be made based on the documents provided without requesting any clarification. It is the responsibility of every applicant to present documents that clear and per the requirement requested. 3. The applicant should fill out and submit the Online Application posted on the Department website. 4. An applicant whose application or performance does not meet the criteria mentioned or did not fill the Application Summary shall be rejected at any point in the admission processes. Admission Requirement for PhD in Economics: Students are admitted into the Ph.D. Program on the basis of achievements in the Masters Program at Addis Ababa University or on the basis of qualifications in equivalent programs elsewhere. The Department of Economics upon receiving the application documents of the applicants from the Registrar Office, short lists students with their performances at the Masters Degree level of relevant programs. The applicants are then requested to submit a proposal about their future research area and also take entrance exam on some core courses. The proposal will be used to evaluate whether the applicants have the writing skill required at this level of study while the entrance exam will evaluate their mastery of economic theories and quantitative skills that are assumed as pre-requisites for the program. Admission Requirement for PhD in Economics: The applicant must have a:- - MSC degree in Economics; with BA degree in Economics is also more preferred. The applicant must pass an entrance examination (focused on macroeconomics, microeconomics, mathematical economics and econometrics) to be administered by Department and should also pass University wide exam. - The proposal submitted by the applicant accounts for considerable point. Foreign applicants may, in lieu of sitting for entrance examination, submit the results of GRE or equivalent examinations. However, if applicants are from English speaking countries and did their university education in English, they do not need to present proof of their language proficiency. Admission Requirement for MSc. in Financial Economics: An applicant for admission to the M.Sc. in Financial Economics must meet the following academic requirements: Applicants must have a BA degree in Economics, Finance, Financial Economics, Management, Accounting, Finance and Development, Statistics, Mathematics. Admission Requirement for Clinical Psychology · BA or BSc Degree in Psychology. · A score of 60% or more in the entrance exam Admission Requirements For Msc & Phd The School of Pharmacy PhD in Pharmacology: Admission requirements - Master of Science Degree (MSC) or equivalent in Pharmacology or other biomedical or pharmaceutical sciences from a recognized institution. - Candidates must have completed their MSc degree through a thesis option program. - Those completed through non-thesis option must demonstrate their research ability by producing at least 1 paper published in peer reviewed journal in relevant area as first author or take 1-year prerequisite courses and laboratory rotations which will help them develop capacity to do independent research. - Candidates with a non-pharmacology MSc degree are required to take relevant courses depending on their area of research from the MSc Pharmacology Graduate Program. - As the case may be, candidates need to pass an entrance examination, consisting of oral exam, as well as presentation of research proposal. - In addition to the academic requirements shown above, candidates need to full fill the other general requirements laid down by the School of Graduate Studies of Addis Ababa University. PhD in Pharmaceutics Admission Requirements Academic Requirements To be considered for admission to the program a candidate should possess: ▪ MSc degree in Pharmaceutics or other areas of pharmaceutical sciences or ▪ MSc degree in Chemical Engineering/Chemistry. MSc holders who have graduated from non-thesis programs must have one publication in peer-reviewed journals Candidates with MSc degrees other than Pharmaceutics will be required to take pre-requisite courses. A candidate is also required to submit a doctoral study plan. Non-Academic Requirements In addition to the requirements cited above, prospective candidates must: ▪ Present proof of funding covering the whole doctoral program unless the Department awards the prospective student a fellowship post. ▪ Be willing to participate in teaching of courses offered by the Department. All non-academic requirements for the PhD program of the university shall apply in its actual version. PhD in Social and Administrative Pharmacy program In addition to the general requirements of the School of Graduate Studies, AAU, a candidate must normally hold: An MSc Degree in Pharmacoepidemiology and Social Pharmacy or; An MSc Degree in the Pharmaceutical Sciences plus a Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy; Candidates with MSc degrees other than Pharmaceutics will be required to take pre-requisite courses. MSc holders who have graduated from non-thesis programs must have one publication in peer- reviewed journals An MPH (or an MSc in a similar field) plus a Bachelor Degree in Pharmacy; Masters degree holders from other related fields may also be considered. A candidate is also required to: Submit a doctoral study plan and Convince the Department of his/her suitability for the program in an admission interview which aims at evaluating each candidate’s academic potential, work experience and attitudinal preparation to pursue a doctoral level education. In addition to the academic requirements cited above: Prospective candidates must: o Present proof of funding covering the whole doctoral program unless the Department awards the prospective student a fellowship post. o Be willing to participate in teaching of courses offered by the Department. All non-academic requirements for the PhD program of the University shall apply. PhD in Pharmacognosy Admission Requirements Master of Science Degree (MSC) or equivalent in Pharmacognosy or related biomedical or pharmaceutical sciences from a recognized institution. Related MSc programs for consideration include: Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics/Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology/Toxicology, Biological Sciences, Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering/Chemical Technology, Medicine/Veterinary Medicine Master of Science Degree (MSC) or equivalent in Pharmacology or other biomedical or pharmaceutical sciences from a recognized institution. Applicants are required to be physically and mentally fit. Moreover, all non-academic requirements for the PhD program of the university shall apply. Candidates, during their PhD study period, must assist in one or more of the courses offered by the Department or the School. Candidates should be entirely devoted for the study in the PhD study period. MSc in Pharmacology: Admission requirements In addition to the General Requirement laid down by the School of Graduate Studies, candidate must: Have earned Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm), doctorate in medicine (MD), Doctor of pharmacy (PharmD), doctor of dental medicine (DDM), doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM), as well as BSc in Biomedical sciences, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology or toxicology from recognized University. Satisfy the above admission requirement will be required to take and pass written and oral examination. *Candidates, who have not taken undergraduate courses in pharmacology, toxicology, physiology and biochemistry with the scope of the curriculum in B. Pharm or MD, will be required to take and pass examinations in these courses before being allowed to take specialty courses. MSc in Pharmacy Practice: Admission requirements In addition to general requirements of School of Graduate Studies, AAU, candidate must: Have a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy from a recognized higher learning institution. Take and pass written and oral entrance examinations when deemed necessary. MSc in Pharmaceutics Admission Requirements To be considered for admission to the program candidates should: Possess a degree (B. Pharm. or equivalent) from recognised institutions of higher learning. Candidates with B. Sc. in Biology or Chemistry may also be considered. The latter however have to audit undergraduate courses before being allowed to register for the MSc modules. MSc in Pharmacoepidemiology and Social Pharmacy Admission Requirements In addition to general requirements of School of Graduate Studies, AAU, a candidate must Have a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy or other health related disciplines (such as Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, etc) from a recognized higher learning institution. Take and pass written and/or oral entrance examinations when deemed necessary. MSc in Pharmacognosy Admission Requirements A candidate who wishes to join the program must fulfill the general admission requirements of the School of Graduate Studies of Addis Ababa University and be: Holder of Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) Degree or equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning. Holders of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) holders in Chemistry or Biology could also apply to join the program provided that they are willing to take some basic Pharmacognosy and related courses given to undergraduate pharmacy students. Required to pass written entrance examinations. MSc in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance Admission Requirements To be considered for admission to the program a candidate: Must fulfill the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School of Addis Ababa University. Have a B. Pharm Degree from a recognized university. *Candidates with B.Sc. Degree in Chemistry may also be considered for admission provided that they take relevant pharmacy remedial courses that shall not be credited towards Masters degree. MSc in Medicinal Chemistry Admission Requirements To be considered for admission to the program a candidate must: Fulfill the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School of AAU. Have a B. Pharm Degree from a recognized university *Candidates with B.Sc. Degree in chemistry may also be considered for admission provided that they take relevant pharmacy remedial courses that shall not be credited towards the Masters degree. MSc in Regulatory Affairs (Medicines Track) Admission Requirements In order to be considered for admission to the MSc program, candidates should fulfill the following academic requirements. Must have a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy or Food Sciences; MD, DVM degree or a bachelor degree in Veterinary and other health sciences. Have the qualification for the designed streams (Medicine and Food regulation) that are required to audit tailored bridging modules to be designed by the Department: For medicines regulation stream: candidates other than Bachelor of Pharmacy graduates are required to audit the following tailored modules: i) Pharmaceutical dosage forms and drug stability; ii) Pharmacology; iii) Pharmacognosy and traditional medicine; iv) Toxicology For food regulation stream: candidates other than food science/technology graduates are required to audit the following modules: i) Introduction to food science; ii) Introduction to food processing technology; iii) Food chemistry and analysis; iv) Toxicology The joint graduate commission (JGC) can grant module exemption on case by case basis after reviewing candidates’ academic records. A candidate is also required to take and pass written and/or oral entrance examinations. In addition to these, general admission requirements of AAU will apply as stipulated in the Senate Legislation. MSc in Health Supply Chain Management Admission Requirements In order to be considered for admission to the health supply chain MSc program the candidate must fulfill the following academic requirements: Have a Bachelor degree in pharmacy or other health related fields Take and pass written and/or oral entrance examinations. Audit relevant undergraduate modules for candidates from non-pharmacy background before they are allowed to register for the MSc modules. In addition to these, all general admission requirements of AAU will apply as stipulated in the current AAU Senate Legislation
