PhD in Public Health Admission Requirements
- A Master's degree in Public Health with a thesis is required. Candidates without a thesis must have two publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Must fulfill Addis Ababa University (AAU) graduate admission requirements.
- Sponsorship from public universities or research institutions is necessary.
- Candidates must submit a doctoral study plan.
- Admission is subject to an interview to evaluate academic potential, work experience, and preparedness for doctoral-level studies.
MPH Program Admission Requirements
- General MPH: MD, DVM, BSc in Public Health, BSc in Pharmacy, BSc in Environmental Health are acceptable qualifications. Government sponsorship is required.
- MPH in Epidemiology & Biostatistics: MD, DVM, BSc in Public Health, BSc in Pharmacy, BSc in Health Informatics, BSc in Statistics are acceptable qualifications. At least two years of work experience are mandatory (excluding female scholarship applicants).
- MPH in Field Epidemiology: MD, DVM, BSC in Public Health, BSc in Pharmacy, BSc in Health Informatics, BSc in Statistics, BSc in Environmental Health, BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology are acceptable qualifications. At least two years of work experience are mandatory (excluding female scholarship applicants).
- MPH in Health Services Management: MD, BSC in Public Health, BSc in Pharmacy, BA in Management, BA in Sociology, BA in Economics are acceptable qualifications.

MSc in Economics Admission Requirements
- Applicants must hold an MSc degree in Economics, with a BA degree in Economics being preferred.
- A departmental entrance examination focused on macroeconomics, microeconomics, mathematical economics, and econometrics is required. The university-wide exam must also be passed.
- Foreign applicants may submit GRE or equivalent exam results instead of taking the entrance exam. However, English-speaking applicants who completed their education in English do not need to provide language proficiency proof.
- The submitted research proposal is considered for admission.

MSc in Pharmacology Admission Requirements
- Must hold a Master of Science Degree (MSC) or equivalent in Pharmacology or other biomedical or pharmaceutical sciences from a recognized institution.
- Must be physically and mentally fit.
- Must fulfill all non-academic PhD program requirements of the university.
- During PhD studies, candidates must assist with courses offered by the department or school.
- Candidates must be entirely devoted to their PhD studies during the study period.
- Must have a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), doctorate in medicine (MD), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), doctor of dental medicine (DDM), doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM), or BSc in Biomedical sciences, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology or toxicology from a recognized university.
- Candidates who haven't taken undergraduate courses in pharmacology, toxicology, physiology, and biochemistry within the scope of the B.Pharm or MD curriculum must take and pass exams in these courses before taking specialty courses.
MSc in Pharmacy Practice Admission Requirements
- Must hold a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy from a recognized higher learning institution.
- Must take and pass written and oral entrance exams when necessary.
MSc in Pharmaceutics Admission Requirements
- Must possess a degree (B.Pharm. or equivalent) from recognized institutions of higher learning.
- Candidates with BSc in Biology or Chemistry may be considered but must audit undergraduate courses before registering for MSc modules.
MSc in Pharmacoepidemiology and Social Pharmacy Admission Requirements
- Must have a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy or other health-related disciplines (Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, etc.) from a recognized higher learning institution.
- Must take and pass written and/or oral entrance exams when necessary.
MSc in Pharmacognosy Admission Requirements
- Must fulfill the general admission requirements of the School of Graduate Studies of Addis Ababa University and be a holder of a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) Degree or equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Holders of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemistry or Biology may apply but must take some basic Pharmacognosy and related courses given to undergraduate pharmacy students.
- Must pass written entrance exams.
MSc in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance Admission Requirements
- Must fulfill the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School of Addis Ababa University.
- Must have a B.Pharm Degree from a recognized university.
- Candidates with a B.Sc. Degree in Chemistry may be considered for admission provided they take relevant pharmacy remedial courses, which will not be credited towards their Masters degree.
MSc in Medicinal Chemistry Admission Requirements

- Candidates with a B.Sc. Degree in chemistry may be considered for admission provided they take relevant pharmacy remedial courses, which will not be credited towards the Masters degree.
MSc in Regulatory Affairs (Medicines Track) Admission Requirements
- Must have a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy or Food Sciences, MD, DVM degree, or a bachelor degree in Veterinary and other health sciences.
- Must have the qualification for the designed streams (Medicine and Food regulation) and may be required to audit tailored bridging modules designed by the Department:
- For medicines regulation stream: Candidates other than Bachelor of Pharmacy graduates must audit tailored modules: Pharmaceutical dosage forms and drug stability; Pharmacology; Pharmacognosy and traditional medicine; Toxicology.
- For food regulation stream: Candidates other than food science/technology graduates must audit tailored modules: Introduction to food science; Introduction to food processing technology; Food chemistry and analysis; Toxicology.
- The joint graduate commission (JGC) can grant module exemption on a case-by-case basis after reviewing candidates’ academic records.
- Must take and pass written and/or oral entrance exams.
