## Lesson 3: Concept of Good Citizenship - **Objective:** - By the end of this lesson, learners will: - Discuss the meaning and importance of good citizenship. - Relate how good citizenship contributes to the development of the community. - Demonstrate desirable attitudes and characteristics of a good Filipino citizen who is Maka-Diyos, Maka-Tao, Maka-Kalikasan at Maka-Bansa. - **Content: Key Concept** - **Definition of Citizenship:** - Citizenship is a term denoting membership of a citizen in a political society, which membership implies, reciprocally, a duty of allegiance on the part of the member and duty of protection on the part of the state. - A citizen is a person having the title of citizenship. They are a member of a democratic community who enjoy full civil and political rights and its accorded protection inside and outside the territory of the state. - **Importance of Good Citizenship:** - To be loyal to the Republic - This means faith and confidence in the republic and love and devotion to the county. - To defend the state - The citizens of the Republic receive benefits and protection from the state of which they are a part, and return it whether from within or from without. - To contribute to the development and welfare of the state - This should be the concern of every citizen for he will be the first to enjoy the benefits there of. - To uphold the constitution and obey laws - The expression of the sovereign will of our people. - To cooperate duly constituted authorities. - To exercise rights responsibly and with due regard for the rights of others. - To engage gainful work - Every citizen must consider it his/her own responsibility and should strive to become a useful and productive member of society to assure not only himself but, more importantly, his/her family a life worthy of human dignity. - To register and vote - It is through suffrage that the will of the people is expressed. - **The Good Citizenship Values (based on DepEd Order No. 36, s 2013)** - Maka-Diyos: - Respect - A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something for their qualities. - Faith - A strong belief in someone or something. - Reverence - A feeling of deep respect and awe. - Maka-Tao: - Love - A deep feeling of affection and care. - Concern - A feeling of anxiety and worry. - Compassion - A feeling of sympathy and empathy. - Maka-Kalikasan: - Appreciation and wonder for the beauty of creation. - Respect for nature and its importance. - Responsibility for the environment.
