As a general rule, sprinkler systems will be among the last items completed since the heads aren't installed in hung ceiling areas until the ceiling itself is installed. The same may be true for fire doors and partitions in areas that aren't yet rented. As an absolute minimum, however, the standpipe riser and outlets should progress to within two floors of the highest level under construction (fig. 19–11). This is a required part of many construction codes, but it is often overlooked. The ones in the cellar, which are used as drains for the plumber. In the event of fire, when the hoses to the FDC are charged, the water will pour out of all these valve outlets until they are shut off manually.
