ORAL COMMUNICATION in Context WEEK 1 Topic: ✔ Nature and elements of Communication WHAT IS COMMUNICATION? Concept of Communication ‘Communication’ has been derived from ‘Communicare’ which means to impart or participate or to transmit. The word ‘Communicare’ is derived from the root ‘Communis’ which means to make common or to share Process of sharing and conveying messages or information from one person to another within and across channels, contexts, media, and cultures (McCornack, 2014). Peter Little defines communication as “the process by which information is transmitted between individuals and or organizations so that an understanding response results.” It involves the interlocutors exchanging signals. These signals could be verbal or graphic, it could be gestural or visual (photographic). Communication usually involves a sender (source) and a receiver. -Fatimayin (2018).
