Continental Lithosphere * Thick, found under land masses. * Average thickness is 25 to 70 km. * Old Rock. * Density: 2.7 g/cm3 (gram per centimeter cube). * Made up of rocks called Granite. ### 2. Oceanic Lithosphere * Thinner, found in the ocean floor. * Average thickness is 7 to 10 km. * Younger than continental crust. * Density 3.0 g/cm3. * Made up mainly of Basalt rocks. ### Two Types of Plates * Primary Plates - Secondary Plates. ### 1. Primary Plates * Are called primary because they are larger than the secondary plates. * Seven primary plates: * Pacific Plate. * North American Plate. * Eurasian Plate. * African Plate. * Antarctic Plate. * Australian Plate. * South American Plate.
