Policy

  • Department Responsibility: The department determines equipment specifications and authorizes its use. It also determines uniform and apparel specifications for all members. Additionally, the department authorizes personal equipment.

Uniform Regulations

All Commissioned Officers (Uniform & Plainclothes)

  • Clothing: Must be clean and pressed.
  • Leather: Polished and shined (belts, footwear).
  • Chrome/Brass: Polished.
  • Hair: Neat and trimmed according to regulations.
  • Part-time Employment: Officers in part-time uniform employment conform to the uniform policy.
  • Male Standards:
    • Hair: Evenly trimmed, not extending below the mid-ear or over the shirt collar; maximum outward extension is two inches, tapered to avoid protruding beyond the ear.

  • Tie: Professional tie of standard length
  • Sweater: Acceptable as long as collared shirt worn, and it doesn't fall below the uniform

Plainclothes Officers: Women

  • Attire: Business suit, collared shirt, ladies blouse, and/or sweater, with dress pants/slacks, or business casual pants. Polo-style shirts (solid color or striped) without wording/symbols other than the manufacturer's insignia, are permitted.
  • Shirt: Solid color or striped Polo style, with no wording/symbols other than the manufacturer’s insignia
  • Accessories: Allowed under uniform

All Investigative Support Personnel

  • Duty Weapon and Badge: Worn at all times in designated holster (hip or shoulder rig), along with handcuffs, extra magazines

All Plainclothes Officers

  • Equipment: Weapon and ammunition, cuffs; items determined by their commanding officer.

Light Duty Uniform

  • Dress, per standards in other sections, unless authorized otherwise by other authorities

Hats

  • Garrison hats: Mandatory in formal events, according to chief's discretion.
