Understanding Physical Disabilities in Education

Orthopedic impairment refers to a severe impairment that adversely affects a child's educational performance, including impairments caused by congenital anomaly, disease, and other causes such as cerebral palsy, amputations, or fractures.

Examples of neurological impairments include cerebral palsy, epilepsy, brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and Tourette's Syndrome.

Cerebral palsy is characterized by motor disorder and is caused by damage to the brain before, during, or shortly after birth. It is not contagious, progressive, or curable.
