Normal Labor (Euthocia)

  • Normal labor, also known as euthocia, is characterized by:
    • A regular, gradual increase in uterine contractions
    • Cervical dilation at a rate of 1-2 cm per hour
    • A steady progress of labor with a normal fetal heart rate

Mini-Labor

  • Mini-labor, also known as false labor, is a type of contractions that:
    • Are irregular and do not increase in intensity
    • Do not cause cervical dilation
    • Are often accompanied by back pain and a hard belly

Labor vs. Delivery

  • Labor refers to the process of contractions that help move the baby down the birth canal
  • Delivery refers to the actual birth of the baby, which is the culmination of the labor process
