Female inmates are the fastest-growing criminal population.
Female inmates are often incarcerated for drug-related charges and economic crimes.
Female inmates are less likely to join Security Threat Groups (STGs).
Female inmates often form surrogate families with hierarchies.
Female inmates have a tendency to create relationships based on companionship.
Female inmates struggle more with depression, guilt and worry about children.
Female inmates express emotions verbally, while males express emotions physically.
Female inmates have lower self-esteem due to sexual abuse and domestic violence.
Female inmates have higher instances of self-mutilation to relieve stress.
Female inmates have higher tolerance for others entering their personal space but will physically fight if someone attempts to touch them.
Female inmates are more concerned with cleanliness than male inmates.
Female inmates often attempt to manipulate staff by using sex to establish relationships.
Female inmates are more willing to participate in programs that provide bonding and socialization opportunities.
