Types of Variables
- A numerical/quantitative discrete variable is one that can only take on specific, distinct values (e.g. number of siblings, number of children).
- A continuous variable is one that can take any value between a certain set of real numbers (e.g. height, weight).
- A categorical/qualitative nominal variable is one that has no inherent order or sequence, and cannot be measured (e.g. favorite color, city of birth).
- A nominal variable is one that cannot be organized in a logical sequence, and has no inherent order or hierarchy (e.g. favorite food, occupation).
