Rizal's Trial and Execution

  • Rizal arrived in Barcelona and was sent to Montjuich Castle, where he was interviewed by Despujol.
  • He was shipped back to Manila, arriving on November 3, and was sent to Fort Santiago.
  • On November 20, he was brought before a Spanish Military Tribunal headed by Colonel Francisco Olive, where he was presented with two pieces of evidence implicating him in the Philippine Revolution.
  • He was charged with rebellion, sedition, and illegal associations by Captain Rafel Dominguez, and was defended by Lt. Luis Taviel de Andrade.
  • On December 26, his trial began in Cuartel De Espana in Fort Santiago, where he presented 12 documents in his defense.
  • He was judged guilty and sentenced to death on December 28, and his death warrant was signed by Gov. Gen. Polavieja on December 29.

Rizal's Defense
