Off-Duty Employment Policy
- The Department of Professional Standards and Investigations distributes completed forms to the Bureau of Human Resources, Employee's Command, and the Employee.
Guidelines for Off-Duty Employment
- Complete the RP#45 Off-Duty Employment Request form and RP#45b Off-Duty Employment Termination form if:
- Taking money or compensation for an off-duty activity
- Accepting honorarium, travel expenses, or items of value
- Reporting income to the Internal Revenue Service for an off-duty activity
- Named in a corporation (officer, etc.), whether drawing a salary/compensation or not
- Having interests in several organizations where activities are performed
RP#45 Off-Duty Employment Request Form
- The form "sunsets" or expires annually on December 31st
- A new form must be submitted every December for the following calendar year
- Employees can submit new forms when off-duty employment conditions or information changes at any time during the year
Review/Approval Process
- Employees submit the RP#45 Off-Duty Employment Request form to their immediate supervisor
- Forms must be reviewed by the employee's chain of command up to the Departmental Executive Director level or as determined by the Sheriff or designee
Special Details Policy
- Requests for off-duty employment must include full disclosure of the nature and scope of the work, duties, tasks, and responsibilities
- Employees are prohibited from adjusting their schedules on a particular day to work a special detail, unless approved in writing by their respective district/unit command
- Employees wishing to work a special detail during their regular assigned shifts must first have approved leave
