Controlling
- Control is the process of evaluating, measuring, and providing feedback.
- Fayol defined control as verifying if everything aligns with the plan, instructions, and principles established.
- A good control system must be reflective of the activity, report errors promptly, be forward-looking, highlight exceptions at critical points, be flexible, objective, reflect the organizational pattern, economical, understandable, and indicate corrective action.
Performance Appraisal
- A formal evaluation of a nurse's performance within a specific timeframe.
- Ensures quality nursing care, sets and verifies compliance with objectives, provides standards for comparison, promotes visibility of performance for self-monitoring, highlights quality care issues and prioritizes areas requiring attention, indicates the cost of poor quality, justifies resource allocation, and provides feedback for improvement.
- Characteristics of an Evaluation Tool: Must be objective, reliable, and sensitive.
Methods of Evaluation
- Anecdotal Notes: Objective descriptions of behavior recorded in written form.
