    • This need creates a drive/behaviour to achieve a goal or incentive.
    • Motivators are techniques used to motivate people through pay, promotion, bonuses, recognition, praise, and responsibility.

    Features of Motivation

    • Motivation is an internal feeling. Internal drives such as desires, aspirations, striving or needs motivate behaviour.
    • Examples of internal drives include wanting a motorbike, a house, or social status.
    • Motivation produces goal-directed behaviour. For example, a promotion can be a goal to improve performance.
    • Motivation can be positive or negative. Positive motivation involves rewards (pay increases, promotions), and negative motivation involves punishment or threats.
    • Motivation is complex as individuals have different expectations, perceptions, and reactions.

    Motivation Process

    • Motivation is based on human needs.
    • A simple model is presented to explain the process.
    • An example of satisfying human needs: A hungry person walks to find food, showing a need, drive, and satisfying actions.
