Hoffman Estates Fire Department - MABAS and City of Chicago Lock Box System
Purpose
- Establish a systematic method of gaining access to firehouses in Division I and the City of Chicago during a change of quarters.
Definitions
- MABAS Lock Box: installed on the front of each firehouse at eye level, contains a door key, key pad code, or necessary information to gain access.
- MABAS Lock Box Key: all MABAS lock boxes have been keyed the same.
- Chicago Lock Box Key: all City of Chicago firehouse lock boxes have been keyed the same, utilizes the traditional elevator key.
Policy
- Distribution of keys within each Fire Department is at the discretion of each Fire Chief.
- Hoffman Estates Fire Department has assigned a MABAS and Chicago lock box key to each lock box key ring.
Responsibilities
Key Supervision
- MABAS and Chicago lock box keys are supervised by Shift and Company Officers.
- Officers verify each day that the keys are present.
Key Management
- Each officer or firefighter assigned the key must have it in-service at all times.
- Report immediately to supervisor if key is absent.
