HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES – 005 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPLIANT SOG Title: MABAS AND CITY OF CHICAGO Revision: LOCK BOX SYSTEM 3 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2024 Fire Chief 2 PURPOSE To establish a systematic method of gaining access to firehouses in Division I and the City of Chicago during a change of quarters. DEFINITIONS POLICY A. MABAS Lock Box: The box should be installed on the front of each firehouse at about eye level. The box will contain a door key, key pad code or other necessary information to gain access to that particular firehouse. B. MABAS Lock Box Key: All MABAS lock boxes have been keyed the same. C. Chicago Lock Box Key: All City of Chicago firehouse lock boxes have been keyed the same and utilize the traditional elevator key located on our key rings. D. Assignment of Keys: The distribution of keys within each Fire Department will be at the discretion of each Fire Chief. The Hoffman Estates Fire Department has assigned a MABAS and Chicago lock box key to each lock box key ring. RESPONSIBILITIES A. The MABAS and Chicago lock box keys will be supervised by the appropriate Shift and Company Officers, who shall verify each day that the keys are present. B. Each officer or firefighter assigned the key shall have the key in-service at all times and report immediately to his immediate supervisor of the absence of this key. C. The Shift Officer shall report immediately the loss of the key to the Deputy Chief of 1 Operations. The member will also conduct a complete investigation of the loss of the key and forward a written report of the findings to the Deputy Chief of Operations before the end of the tour of duty. D. Each officer or firefighter using the MABAS or City of Chicago lock box key will ensure that any lock box utilized is secured prior to leaving the change of quarters firehouse. E. Each company officer will ensure that the MABAS lock box for their own quarters has been secured after each use. PROCEDURES EXCEPTIONS REFERENCES End of Document 2
