Leave Policy Overview
- Policy effective from October 1, 2020, for full-time employees at UPL India.
- Applies to all permanent employees and trainees, excluding manufacturing workers with specific conditions.
Purpose
- Aims to inform employees about leave and holiday provisions for celebration, rest, and family time.
Leave Calculation Process
- Calendar year for leave from January 1 to December 31.
- New hires' leave entitlement prorated from joining date to December 31.
Types of Leaves and Holidays
- National & Festival Holidays
- Privilege Leave (PL)
- Casual Leave
- Sick Leave
- Maternity Leave
- Paternity Leave
National & Festival Holidays
- Observes three national holidays: January 26, August 15, and October 2.
- Local festival holidays vary by state and cultural sentiments.
- Holiday list for the next year published by December 15 of the current year.
Privilege Leave (PL)
- Eligibility: 21 working days per year.
- Accumulation: Maximum of 60 days for new joiners after October 1, 2020.
- Employees joining before October 1, 2020, can accumulate up to 120 days (under 50 years) or 240 days (over 50 years).
- PL credited on December 31 each year with a minimum of four days required for Leave Travel Allowance (LTA) claims.
- Minimum four days of PL needed for LTA; weekends/holidays excluded from leave calculation.
- PL can be taken a maximum of three times a year, longer leaves (7+ days) require one-month notice.
Casual Leave
- Eligibility: 7 casual leaves per year.
- Cannot be accumulated or encashed; maximum of 3 days at a stretch.
- Cannot be combined with sick or privilege leave.
Maternity Leave
- Total entitlement: 26 weeks, available twice during service tenure as per Maternity Benefit Act.
- Additional 6 weeks for women; total can extend to 32 weeks for up to two surviving children.
- Leave can be taken up to 26 weeks before expected delivery and 12 weeks for a third surviving child.
- Must submit medical documents for approval.
- Women employees considered active for performance evaluation and variable pay during maternity leave.
Paternity Leave
- Eligibility: 7 working days for male employees (excluding weekends and holidays).
- Cannot be accumulated; available for up to two children.
- Not applicable if the employee has two children at joining.
General Rules Governing Leave
- Planned leaves must be approved in advance; unauthorized leaves result in loss of pay.
- Leave period is based on the calendar year.
- New hires' leave entitlements are prorated from hire date.
- Disciplinary action may result from failure to notify HR about leave applications.
