- Describing a culture is like explaining a song without singing it; it's complex.

- Also, to determine how the manager could have improved their effectiveness.
- Resources for case analysis will be provided (including a case, evaluation grid, and instructional materials from UNSW).
- Analysis will be completed in groups of 4–5 students.
Power Distance & Masculinity Index
- Power distance: The relationship between those in power and subordinates. High power distance cultures accept unequal power distribution, while low power distance cultures strive for equality.
- Masculinity: Social gender roles are clearly defined; assertive male/tough, and focused on material success; modest and tender female roles, quality of life. High masculinity countries are competitive, high femininity countries are consensus-oriented.
Uncertainty Avoidance Index
- Uncertainty avoidance: How a culture tolerates unpredictability. This refers to how comfortable a society is with ambiguity and the unknown.
France and Great Britain Risk Avoidance
- France dislikes risk; Great Britain likes risk.
- This example illustrates the varying levels of risk tolerance across different countries.
