Epidural Hematoma
Epidural Hematoma
Collection of blood between the dura and the skull, usually due to a fracture of the temporal bone.
Epidural Hematoma - Cause
Epidural Hematoma - Cause
Bleeding separates the dura from the skull, typically caused by a ruptured middle meningeal artery.

Study Notes
EPIDURAL HEMATOMA
- Blood collection between the dura and the skull
- Commonly due to middle meningeal artery rupture following temporal bone fracture.
- Blood separates the dura from the skull
- Diagnostic features:
- Lens-shaped lesion on CT scan
- Lucid interval may occur before neurological symptoms appear
SUBDURAL HEMATOMA
- Blood collection under the dura; blood covers the brain surface.
- Usually due to tearing of bridging veins between the dura and arachnoid.
- Associated with trauma
- Clinical presentation:
- Crescent-shaped lesion on CT scan
- Progressive neurological symptoms
